Hi I have a 5 month old Aussie and have had him for 2 months. He doesn't seem to like my 2 young toddlers very much. He acts very different when they are at my place, seems like he gets stressed out and pee's in the house more than ever. He is pretty muched trained and well behaved when they are not around but once they are there he changes instantly.
Hi! Our golden puppy who is now 6 mos old, has a different personality when I am home all day with just him and the older golden and a 4-yr old. When the 3 older children get home from school, he becomes a different puppy!! He gets really rambuctious and will pee more frequently, even in the house, when he has'nt done it all day with me. I've heard that a dog's personality will reflect your household. So, in my case, the dog is calm and well-behaved all day and when all 4 kids are running around, laughing, playing, etc, he does the same. It could be that he is just reflecting the busyness that a house with children brings.
he may be afraid because toddlers are active and unpredictable. and being an aussie they react to stimulus, that being a herding dog trait. i'd watch them, and it's not too young to teach the toddlers how to treat a dog. i'm not sure about him getting used to it, others with experience would know better!
Thanks.. I do keep a constant eye on the dog and the kids. We do not allow them to touch the dog without one of us present. I have read that I need to train the kids as well as the dog. From my observation you comment seem pretty true regarding the puppy being afraid. thanks again gotta go for now. Anyone who has any suggestions/advise please reply as I will check back in on 4-6-04. Thanks again :)
