Yes, , collars can be too heavy. This is why they come in different sizes and choke chains come in different thicknesses asnd weights. You have to take the dog's size into consideration when purchasing a collar. Small dog. Small collar.
Yes there is. How big is your dog? I personally like the 1/2 to 3/4 inch collars on my dogs, both of whom weigh more than 50 lbs. For a tiny small dog like a chihuahua or a yorkie, the super thin collars (I think they're 3/8 inch or smaller??) would be more appropriate. More of a cord than a collar in some cases.
Ya, I think that you could get collars that are too big for a little dog. Mazel didnt used to wear a collar all the time cause I couldnt find one that wasnt bulky.
I just recently got a really nice collar for Mazel. It is really lightweight, nicely made (with a little clip, not a heavy buckle and it sits really flat, withough a piece hanging off the end. It looks like it will be durrable (and if not it has a lifetime guarentee!). On top of that I happen to think that it is pretty darn cute.
I have that same kind of collar for my pup ... without the polka dots :-) It does have the plastic clip type of closure though. I got mine at Petsmart. , but I've seen the poka dot ones with the plastic clip at PetoCo.
