5 month old schipperke started having leg problems about a month ago. She started about a month ago limping on a back leg and then the other one. A week ago she woke up and couldn't walk. After being awake for awhile it gets better although still limps a little. She's been to the vet and all bones look great, vet says joints feel good and is overall healthy. Has anyone ever had a problem like this?
I have heard that some dogs have something called 'puppy wobbles'. I have personally never seen it personally in a dog, but I have heard of it. Did your vet actually x-ray the dogs back legs and hips, or did he just do a visual and touch based diagnosis?
there is a problem in smaller dogs that is very similiar to what you are describing. we just diagnosed it in a westie. but if your vet took x-rays then it would have shown up. i can't remember the full name it has 3 words but one of the words is perthes. also did your vet do a lyme test on your pup? one symptom of lymes is alternate leg lameness.
Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease. I had read about that. She doesn't have any pain with it though. Live in Nebraska so at this point don't have to worry about Lyme disease-don't have any ticks this time of the year.
thank you!!!! i have been going nuts trying to think of the full name since i replied to you. the little westie didn't exhibit any pain either. she still did her agility with it before she came in to be seen. some dogs just don't exhibit pain - the fact that she is limping on it means it is bothering her but she may just not be the type of dog that cys when she is painful. i hope you find out what is wrong with her soon, poor little thing.
