Frontline or Revolution are two I know of that my vet recommends. If you can get them cheaper than a vet, go for it, I don't know if you need a prescription to get it from a catalog or online or not. Revolution also protects against heartworm.
DO NOT decide to go with any of the Hartz Products, they have been known to cause seizure and death in some cases. I dont know about biospot, except that it's not waterproof, so to me, what good is that? I used frontline and am very happy with the results.
I agree with both Lalayla and Mafia, there are a few really good ones offered through your vet. More oftern than not, it will depend on your breed and location.
I tried k-9 Advantix because of the additional protection agaist misquitos, didn't like it because it left a reside that seemed to act as a dirt magnent for my 3 white dogs, so went back to the Front-Line Plus.
My dogs have never had a problem with fleas/ticks and we live in S. FL with woods behind our home.
Thanks all. Unfortunately I don't live in the US right now, so I think its a bit difficult for me to get this from a vet. There are tons of strays here, so fleas are a real problem. I wash my dog weekly with flea bath, but even with that he's always itching. I decided to try frontline. I looked at frontline plus, but at least petco doesn't have it for dogs under 11 lbs. My dog is a toy breed, so he's well under 10 lbs.
Thanks for the hint on the one that makes your white dogs dirty. Mine is pure white and it takes very little to get him dirty.
I would not use biospot. I never had trouble with it until this year when my 100lb mix and 40 lb mix and a reaction. I wasn't sure if my 100lb would make it. I can't prove it but it's the only thing the two dogs were given that could have caused the symptoms they had. Both are fine now, but it was very scarey.
I've always used Frontline Plus and it seemed to do pretty well but Chloe would still scratch from time to time. This time I gave her Sentinel instead of Interceptor along with the Frontline and she doesn't scratch at all. I give Lily Revolution for fleas and her heartworm preventative.
