APRI, is the American Pet Registry Inc., and is in no way Like AKC, or UKC, etc. They never require DNA proof on any breeding stock, they are working to SUPPORT, dog retailers, brokers, pet shops, distributors. This would be against what most goo, reputable breeders believe.
There is also APR..American Purebred Registry, which will register any dog as any breed that you want to say it is their motto "you word is enough", They register any dog whatsoever, no regulations, and even dogs that have hed their papers suspended by other registries, another one reputable people would not use.
Just to ad to this post. Make sure your Chi pups have ALL of their sets of shots before they go to the pup classes. You want to make sure they are protected from anything the other dogs might have. I was surprised to hear from a friend that these pet stores are not requiring that pups have all their sets of shots before that attend classes.
APR is a good registry. You CANNOT register mutts with them. The dog MUST be able to be registered through AKC or another "well-known reputable" registry, or the dog must be from APR registered parents. I have AKC and APR registered dogs. I have heard some good things about DOG REGISTRY OF AMERICA but I really don't know how good it is(I do have a couple dogs who were registered through them when I bought them, but when I tried to register a litter from the adults, they said they never got the money OR the paperwork.) That said, my next dog will be AKC or APR registered.
Please visit www.americanpurebredregistry.com and read! They state that they will register your dog as what ever breed you indicate based on "your word" , as they have in print "your word is enough" oooh, boy sounds reputable to me. Also, if ANY other registry has cancelled your dogs registry (even AKC) they will register with them, so obviously the AKC registeration is not a requirement to register
About AKC verses CKC. I have Chuhuahua's registered with both, and i prefer ckc over Akc. They have really gotten out of hand with their prices. I ALSO HEARD SEVERAL BAD THINGS ABOUT AKC, SO, I HAVE SWITCHED TO CKC, AM QUITE SATISFIED WITH THEM. i KNOW ALOT OF BREEDERS WHO ARE SWITCHING TO CKC OVER AKC. MY VET PREFERS CKC OVER AKC AND IS THE ONE WHO RECOMMENDED CKC TO ME.
