Dakota (8wk. old Golden) seems to sleep alot. He will play for about 1 1/2 hr. and then sleep for 2 hrs. He tends to be awake longer towards dinner time, but will be ready for bed by ten or ten thirty. He will sleep until nine the next morning. Dakota is not my first pup - but I don't remember my other pups sleeping as much I picked Dakota because of his laid-back personality, his easy going attitude. I'm thinking the combination of his personality and age(baby) is the reason for all the sleeping. I asked the Vet, and he told me that's what 8 wk. old pups do. I'm wondering - how much does everyone's pup sleep?
Isn't he taking something for the cough besides an antibiotic? A cough suppressant will make him sleepy, plus I'm sure that coughing alone takes a lot out of him. I remeber when my pup had Kennel Cough, she slept an awful lot.

My 10 month old still only has two speeds, dead asleep and tearing around the house! I as well asked my vet when I first got him and she likened him to a baby that needs periods of sleep to grow and build up his energy again. But mid to late afternoons are still his down time no matter where we are! Have Fun!
Just like people who have a cold, your pup will need more rest to get better. Let him slep in a safe, comfortable place so he will get better fasteer. Even when healthy, young pups sleep a lot in between play times and should not be disturbed.
I just got a goldendoodle pup and she is 8 weeks old too. She sleeps more than she is awake. I would be surprised if she was awake longer than an hour without a nap. She sleeps through the night too just like your's. Maybe it is something with the breed. Enjoy your pup, we are sure enjoying ours! :)
My 7 week old Chihuahua sleeps a lot! She'll play HARD for 15 min. get worn out and sleep for 2 hours. She does that all day long. Then she goes to bed for "night night" and wakes me up at 6:30 a.m. to go potty, eat, go potty again, then go back to bed.
