They are beautiful, smart, athletic, and sweet. They can be show dogs, hunting dogs, great family pets, agility dogs, search & rescue...you get the picture, they can do almost everything and look good while doing it!
Rhodesian Ridgeback. They are very varsitile also for a fairly large, muscular dog -- hunting large game, protection, service, companion, herding, obedience, agility, lure coursing, therapy, house dog, children's pet, etc.
I think they could do a lot more if people tried to use them for other things, but when you have labs, GSDs and other breeds like that people tend to stick with what they know works and not always consider other breeds. And ridgebacks are pretty uncommon in the US compared to Europe and its native Africa, so a lot of people don't realize how great they are and what they're capable of. I mean when a breed has the courage, determination, & intelligence to successfully hunt lions, there's a pretty good chance they'll be good at most of what they try to do.
