we recently aquired a boxer from a reputable breeder and she has refused to eat for almost a week now. we bought the same food she has been eating for years. we even tried a few other brands. i finally gave her some scraps tonight so she wouldnt be starving. can anyone help me out?
It would be best to take her to the vet and see why. Usually I'd say not to feed the dog tablescraps, but instead to just wait and let her eat when she's hungry, but this really sounds like a situation. Take her to the vet and if she's okay, then you might want to give her her breeder's food with some people food or canned food mixed in just for a little flavor. My dog isn't eating either, but I do notice his food levels going down every day in his bowl. He only eats dry food and won't touch the canned. It usually goes in the trash. My point is, dogs have their own tastes and sometimes they just don't want to eat what their given, or anything for that matter.
Did your dog eat the table scrapes? Be very careful about this because if he ate this he may not want to go back to the dog food . That is what happened to me. Once my dog got a taste of human food that was it. So now we are on the raw food. But to be on the safe side take him to the vet and get him checked out. Good luck!
Take your puppy to the vet. There could be a few different reasons why your puppy isn't eating. Are you feeding your boxer the same food the breeder was feeding? Has your puppy been checked for worms? Good Luck :)
the dog we got is almost 7 years old. she has finally eaten a few bits of dog food as of the day before yesterday. she still isnt eating the way she should. i called the vet and he says there is nothing wrong with her. he had just seen her the week we got her for a check up. the breeder says she will eat when she gets hungry. i am feeding her pedigree. this is what she grew up on.
I would definately get a second opinion. This is does not sound like nothing. There are many health problems involving a loss of appetite. It may take may test (urine, stool, blood, x-ray, etc) to find the problem. I don't think that your pet would not eat for nearly a week for nothing. Are there any other symptoms? lethargy, fever, etc?
Other than a health issue, the dog will hold out to see if he can get something better, basically hes working you. Put the food down for the dog for 10 minutes than take it away. The dog will not die or starve if he misses some meals. Alot of dog are very stubborn, don't give in. He has to realize this is your meal eat it or it will disappear. If not eating is along with diarrehea or vomiting now I would be worried. Don't give him table scraps. Eventually he will eat but this will have to be maintained all the dogs life because somewhere hes had something else, and its made him a picky eater.
I have to get my Boston started in order for her to eat. I first drop a dog treat in her regular dish for her to get the taste of food in her mouth. Then I pick about three pieces out of her dish and hand feed her. Then she will start to eat on her own. Yes I spoil her but she just is who she is. She would rather play then eat and she couldn't act any more like a toddler. You might also want to try mixing the dog food with baby food. Stay away from ones with onions in the ingredients. Is your dog peeing and pooping ok b/c if that seems normal then it sounds like your dog is just being stubborn.
