I recently contacted a responsible breeder on more information on my low-protien concerns for my new dal girl. She actually suggested moving the puppy to an adult dog food next month That was vegetarian or poutry based. Here is a great link to more information about bladder crystals and preventative diet: http://www.thedca.org/dal_book.html
Thanks for that info. Looks like what my vet said was wrong about feeding Iams Puppy Food for Large Dogs until he is 12 months old. How old is your Dal? Mine is 4.5 months. Do you know of any brands that are vegetarian or poultry based? Hopefully I can get them in Australia. Also, did the breeder say anything about the required calcium levels for large growing dogs that is in the puppy food and not in the adult food?
VEGANPET FOOD 70 Trevor Road, Nar Nar Goon North, Victoria, 3812, Australia Ph: 03 5942 7461 Fax: 03 5942 7509 www.veganpet.com.au I hope this helps. If not they may know of a dealer near you. My dal just turned 5 mos, well atleast this is what the vet thinks. I rescued her so I don't know where she came from. She was in the city pound for 2 weeks before I could bring her home. I am trying to be gentle with her. I think she is a little traumatized, but we are hanging in there.
