I might get a Puggle puppy, but my dad thinks that it will eat our rabbits and guinea pigs.o my dad doesn't want to get a puggle.I want to know if you can train the puggle pup not to attack the rabbits and guinea pigs.Is it possible?
Excuse me if I am wrong, but isn't a puggle some kind of a beagle mix dog? I can't keep up with the terminology for all these mixed breed dogs. If it is a beagle mix, I would say YES, it will "go after" your rabbits and rodents.
Beagles are bred to be rabbit hunters and it is in their nature to hunt rabbits. Most likely they would also be driven for the scent of other rodent type creatures, too.
Just my opinion, but I don't think a beagle or beagle mix dog would be the best type to chose, considering that you have rabbits.
I think if you show her the rabbits at a young age that will help but always have your guard up 100%. My doberman used to loved my Guinea pigs and birds he would not even move a inch if they were near him, he was worried he would hurt them.
I had a friend with an Akita that knocked over his hamster cage and ate one of his hamsters. My previous dog a pitbull mix would chase our rabbit around the yard until he catches it and wouldn't know what to do with it.
I think this is one of 2 threads on this issue. My opinion is this dog is part beagle and beagles were bred to hunt rabbits. They are relentless in their determination to explore smells. If nothing else, the dog will probably stand outside the door and howl at the rabbits, if it takes after the beagle side!
