my 5month old lhaso opso is showing to be very protective of me, and not very submissive/relaxed with others, even friends. my neighbor-girl 8 yrs old tried to pick up my puppy, but was unsure how to do it...he swung his head up and around at her and growled. I dont know if he bumped her in the mouth, or if his teeth actually got her...but she ended up bleeding, with a small cut upper lip. she has been crying for 20 mins now. i just moved into the neighb orhood 2 months ago, and have become great friends with the family...I wish i new if he "bit" her lip, or just bumped her lip. I think she is saying she felt his teeth on her. Any time the dog has growled at her, or moved toward her, the girl jumps way away. She is generally scared of dogs. Now I dont know what to do...any thoughts??? He recently got his rabi shots too. Thanks for listening.

Sorry manny, I have no real helpful advise for you, but hope someone else might,
All I can say (and this is only my opinion, far from an expert) is that since this is a pup, you really need to get some serious obedience training and socialization started ASAP. That or I can see that the dog will have to be locked up every time you have company.
AND that little girl will never get over her fear of dogs unless her parents introduce her to some friendly dogs.
That's a tuff one. I agree with pyrmom, socialization. I know I have 2 old farm dogs, they are mine and mine only. They are old now and I give up, but they really could have used that socialization. The one refuses to go near anyone, they other, likes to growl and try and nip. My 2 pups are doing great, but they get out alot and they see lots of children. Good luck, it's so hard when they become so attached to their owner.
manny, I don't really have advice either. My 10month old Chi doesn't like anyone but me. She wont let anyone else touch her and she snaps at children. I take her to small dog meet-ups to meet other people and dogs, but that doesn't seem to be helping. I scold her for her bad behavior, but she is soooo protective of me and skiddish around other people. She hasn't bitten anyone YET, but I can see it comming.
Im sorry to hear about your experience. It is hard when your pup gets so attached.
