Lily_Wolf, yes, stomach was exposed for a brief moment as she literally yanked the dog up to her by its chain like pulling a bucket from a well. lol - i was slightly impressed considering that four-legged loaf of bread looked to weigh almost as much as my dog - 40lbs. still unsure as to what the breed or mix is....kind of looked like a corgi or basset hound body with a chihuahua's head.
oh wow, that's up there. i used to live in lubbock...don't know if you know where that is. currently, i'm residing in austin - where despite this recent encounter - they are very dog- and even pit-friendly
suppermommy try to read some post, the post above you was all truthful and a good post. But you come on put something like this. Calm your worries, Pit Bulls LOVE KIDS. They are not likely to turn or attack children. I hope you get this message. Your dog is another story, it might be indanger it may not. There are gamebred dogs are safe around other dogs (especially other dogs that are not Pits), its just not their nature to attack some dog like that. But I take it these are just low life type people and BYBs. So I'd take some caution, do you have a fenced yard? Or a way to keep your dogs safe. YOU shouldn't have to they should just be responsible, but you may want to invest in one. Guess they have been because the dogs haven't yet attacked your dogs/kids your just concerned its a responsibilty which is reasonable. But don't worry about your kids, Pit Bulls love them like I said, they are really gentle and stable, they have a high pain tolerance and don't mind a child's abuse. Look back into histoy with the Lil Rascals Petey is an example of the true temperament of the Pit Bull. He's not an exeption. Loved the kids for many years and was a dog in the a lot of public situations and just ate it up! he was 100% gamebred American Pit Bull Terrier, his sire Black Jack was a famous 16 time winner one of Earl Tudors dogs. Petey was also an AKC reg. AmStaff however he isn't an AmStaff by any means he was just reg. as one and his sire Black Jack is the bases of a lot of the AmStaffs you see today. Dog aggression and people aggression are totally unrelated. I hope you see this msg.
No true pits, you completely misunderstood, the breed wouldn't become extinct because pet owners spayed and neuterd their pets. Breeders would breed, not spay and neuter. They would take care of reproduction while pet owners were enjoying the relaxation of a completely fixed dog and no worry of puppies. Furthermore, I can't see how you'd think I'm stupid enough to think that breeders could keep making puppies if the father had no testicles and the mother had no uterus. No they WOULDN'T BECOME EXTINCT. Yes, aggression can be dominated by lovingness with careful breeding. Of course a dog created to fight will retain some of its longing to, but it can also love and be loved because that is also what it has in it to do.
Someone made a comment in their post about ending a breed. That will never happen and if it did happen, there would always be another breed of dog that would become labeled as a "bad" breed. I have met some wonderful pitbull and I have met some not so wonderful pitbulls. All the wonderful pitbulls I have met are raised by responsible owners. Anyone can turn any breed of dog into a vicious dog. Its all in how they are raised and cared for.
halo611, you're so right. I have met more vicious "friendly" dogs than pits in my life. I know a cocker that bit, chihhuahuas, so many. I even read about a pom that killed a kid. I think it's up to an owner to help a breed and not hinder it. Dogs are only dogs and depend on us to keep them safe, happy, and healthy. It's when we don't provide for their needs that they turn on us. Whether a dog was originally bred to fight or warm laps hundreds of years ago doesn't matter now because we have the ability to make them lovers or fighters.
Frosty I thought this had been resolved. I said I misunderstood what CVP was saying. Like I already said I thought they meant ALL pit bulls no matter what should be fixed this would end the breed solve the problem. No I don't think anyone is that stupid. man I even agreed with the whole thing of spaying pets.
Yes, i used to live in Copperas Cove, Tx for 9 1/2 years before I came up here. It's too cold for my tastes up here compared to the austin area. I am actually making a trip to the Plainview facilities near Lubbock tomorrow.
The reason I am worried is because many times at night I hear yelping and growling from there house. I am pretty certain they are fighting dogs. Dogs are constantly tied, and no one is ever out there spending time with them. One day the kids who live in the house were playing out of range of 5 dogs that were tied in the yard. Two of the dogs acted like they may play(bowing and wagging and barking) The other three were growling and not seeming at all like they wanted to play. I am worried about the safety of the dogs. When the county went over there. All of the window were tinted too dark to see in and there were many dogs inside of the house barking. Animal control has to catch them in the act of fighting to do anything about it. They agree that having two dogs there during the week and 4 or more on the weekends is peculiar. I don't think that the male pits are people friendly. There bitches and the puppy seem people friendly. I really think that they are fighting the dogs and so do many of my neighbors.
I hate it....I hate it all. i'm about to get a puppy and I can't wait. It might even be a pit. I feel so bad, they are misustood and only are aggressive if they are portecting someone, abused (which stupid people did THEMSEVLES) or have a disease. It's so sad the way people talk about them.
<> I completly understand your concerns. I was just trying to help ease your mind. There is a big problem if those dogs were growling at their own children! Fighting dogs are not people aggressive, or should never be in any situation. That is why we have such stable Pit Bulls today, the handlers are in the pit with these dogs and treat them afterward. If they are aggressive these people are complete morons, they are putting themselves in danger when one of these dogs turns on them including in the pit when they want to be released, or if they are after one of their own children!!! <> Fighting dogs also NEVER yelp and would rarely growl. It is deathly and even chillingly silent during a dog fight. I'm not sure what to tell you, I hope they are not abusing these dogs, it sounds like they are. Either they are abusing the dogs or they are fighting some really messed up dogs that are yelping like that? <> Not sure if that can constitute dog fighting. They sounds like some of the people I know who don't fight dogs at all. They always have dogs tied out without attention, different dogs all the time, and don't care for them one bit. <> Some help these people are, they never come through in most cases. What do you mean inside the house barking? This means they have more than what is on the outside. Were these dogs loose barking at the windows! Or were they contained inside. This could be the explanation of having all those different dogs outside. Some people keep their animals in pet crates and alternate who goes out when. I know some one who does something like this, he is way over the dog limit for his city but you will never see more than 3 pits outside his home. I know some one who got their dog from a terrible breeder who has many pits inside in crates and multiple dogs in pens. Thats what some people are like puppy mills on a smaller scale than what some would think, you can be a puppy mill with just one breed. I know you mentioned a starved dog? Starved dogs can't really fight that well. This is a scarey situation if they are fighting dogs they don't even know how to take basic care of them? If they are not fighting dogs then they still are neglecting them! I don't really know what to say in this case. It could be they are fighting some of those dogs, or they are just abusing them and neglectful like many of the people I know who would be accused of dog fighting even though they are not. They often too have people over on weekends, different dogs there, they have friends bringing pits, they just keep breeding with whoever whenever mass producing, they have accidental fights a few times because they are too stupid to know how to control their dog, their dogs warning signs or are trying to breed them. It is so hard to tell and be certain. Maybe you should pay more attention to them and possibly try to befriend them, then you can really find out what they are doing. if they are abusing them then you have a case, if they are fighting them from the sounds of these idiots they will have no problem bragging about their stupidity to you if you show interest.
when you hear these dogs yelping and growling in the house at night why don't you call the police/animal control at that moment and let them know. that way they can check on the house while it is happening. maybe even if it isn't dog fighting maybe they are involved in other illegal activities such as drugs and then they could be arrested and the dogsa taken away.
I just want to let you know that sometimes thimg like this do happen to ther best and most ressponsible of all breeds one to keep this from happening is train you dog to focus more attention on you than whats around you. You probablly spot these thing before your pup does so when you see something that might be a distractions so like try taking you pup the park and putting your pup on like a 2 or 30 fot lead rope an d let them run around if your pup knows how to fecth this is great to help train you pup in htis type of situation and soon enough you pup will pay more attention on you than other dogs ans some obedience trainers arent that great this breed is smart enough for for you to read out of a book on how you train your pup on comhprehend what your trying to do wll good luck oh and one other thing if this type of incident happens again let the people that are yelling know that yelling can be taking as an act of aggesiveness towards your dog
There was this guy that used to live close to me, he had a Rotti. He treated the dog like it was a nasty biter. When ever someone came to close he freaked out like the dog was going crazy or something. The dog was obviously fine and only wanted to socialize. But he wanted the dog to be aggressive. So anyways I was going to the store and saw him comeing from down the street with his dog, I had Leeza(French bulldog 20lbs) So I went into the store with Leeza, I could hear him outside furious that he now can't bring his dog inside because I'm in there with my dog. (At this point I'm laughing at him) When I come outside hes there, I pass him and walk off to the side and squat down to put my money away in my back pack.(really I was curious what he was going to do and I wanted to piss him off) After he comes out of the store he goes out of his way to come up to me (with his vicious dog??) and ask me if I was hopeing his dog would eat my dog?? At this point his dog is sniffing in Leezas direction and Leezas Bareing teeth. I just gave him a puzzled look because hes obviously coo coo in the head!!! And he walked away. You really should pass a test before you can own a dog.
**UPDATE** So I got the dreaded call from my apt. office today. They stated that they had gotten concerns from "residents" about the type of breed I had and that they had to call their main office to discuss liabilities and insurance...blah...blah.. I asked the apt. manager who called me, "is this something i should worry about being thrown out on the street for?" Her response was, "let's hope it doesn't come to that, but we'll have to wait until the main office calls us back. Try not to worry all weekend about it." ARRRGH!! I've gotten copies of both my lease and pet addendum when I got my dog. Neither contract (and my office admits this) has restriction on weight or breed. The only "catch all" in the pet addendum is a statement claiming that I must remove the animal if they ".....receive reasonable complaint from a neighbor or other resident or if we, in our sole discretion, determine that the animal has disturbed neighbors or other residents." The only complaint existing may be from this stupid lady. Gosh, I cried and cried like a baby after this phone call. I can take him to the office and show that he's a good dog. Is there anything legally I can do about this???
This is really sad. There isn't a lot you can do though. I hope you all can come to an agreeable arrangement that allows you to keep your dog. This is why I stated earlier that you have to be on the look out when you own a pit. People target them. There is a pit phobia in the world because of all the irresponsible DORKS who fight these poor dogs. ARGGGGGHHHH! I am screaming with you.
