I am getting a 'Puggle' puppy very soon, and tomorrow i'm going to go to the mall to buy some training books. So far i heard that " Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul " is good to buy. Any other suggestions?
a book i like is culuture clash by jean donaldson, i resd it every now and again. it will help you understand how a dog learns. and will help you for go many mistakes that i made. as for treats i use raw frozen chickens feet. they love em' i would only feed about a half of one to a small dog. but they are extremely healthy for the dog. i do not feed kibble, i feed raw. from what i hear shuck soup is a "good kibble". i have had no luck with kibble so i feed a raw diet, which has been remarkable in my dogs. but it requires some time and research to properly feed.
I would recommend a puppy kit called The Urban Puppy. There is a CD in the kit ,plus picture type instructions on things to teach your puppy, including socializing and desensitizing to the environment. It will show you the different stages in puppy development up to I beleive 1 year. For purchases in your area try www.urbanpuppy.com Your Veterinarian may be able to help you find it as well.
I would highly recommend The Perfect Puppy by Gwen Bailey. It's the best book I've bought in relation to how much help it has given me when I got Todd. It's an easy read and you can just pick it up where you left off when you have a spare 5 minutes! You can find it on Amazon.
