a co worker of mine is looking to add another american bulldog to her family. i am trying to help her find a good breeder and am not really sure what to look for or stay away from with this breed. i have seen a few kennels she has looked at and am not crazy about them just on a basic level.
the AB she has now is a wonderful dog personality wise but is a health disaster.
as a american bulldog breeder, i can tell you to just check references of breeders. ask for phone numbers of people that have bought dogs before. how is the health and personality? get the buyer's opinons not the breeders.
What is your friend looking for in an AB? Does she want a pet, weightpuller, protection sporter, catchdog, etc? Is she leaning towards a Johnson type, Scott type or Hybrid look? I agree.. ask all breeders for references (past buyers, vet, other breeders), etc. I've been in the breed for awhile and have no problems helping her in her search.... I show/work my AB's and do AB rescue. You can email me at Carrie_par@msn.com
** on a side note... it is an American Bulldog that plays Chance in Homeward Bound. His registered name is Sure Grip's Rattler. He was bred by Kyle Symmes of Sure Grip Kennels in Temecula, CA. Rattler went on to become a flammable liquid sniffing dog with the Fire Dept. He also worked in protection and hog catching. Good dog... many offspring (especially on the West Coast)
