So it's 1pm here.. I've been up for about 9 1/2 hours so far lol
Well Riddick did great, he got first place in puppies 6-9 months. There were 3 total pups in his class and one was absent, so he beat out only one other dog, but still, I only had one goal for the day and that was to beat out at least one other dog. So goal accomplished!!! First place in puppies is feeling pretty rocking for my first trip out showing in 2 years, and Riddicks first show ever. He did very well as far as examination and stacking.
There were 58 labs total today, 24 male dogs. So after he got 1st in puppies, we had to wait for the Winners Dog round, which was.. 21 dogs later :P Didn't do anything in WD but the other 6 dogs (there were 7 dogs total cause open labs are split into varieties by color, yellow, chocolate and black) were of course far more mature.
Anyway. Yay for Riddick!! We go back tomorrow, there'll be 66 labs tomorrow, with 28 male dogs :P It was fun! I"m so fraeking tired.. nap time ;)

Great job for first time out, your new goal sohuld be to place every time out. Don't feel bad about not doing anything in winners dog. When my female was in the 9 to 12 class I had a judge come up to me after the breed was over and told me that my bitch should have taken winners bitch, so I asked him why then did you not pick her. His reply was he will never give winners dog or bitch to a puppy because they still have time to fall apart and no judge will want the reputation of giving that dog/bitch a win.
Go figure, he should have just kept his mouth closed and I would have been happy with winning the class but he had to put that bug in my brain.
Renorey, I have also heard that about many judges. Tomorrow's judge likes puppies and will put them up. I also made a personal mistake in the WD ring, I was looking at Riddick and not at the judge, so missed one of her commands. And I think little things like that (thought they don't affect the quality of the dog) do make a difference. So tomorrow I am the one that needs to be on the ball, not Riddick.
Well unfortunatley today didnt' go so well. We got 2nd place in puppies. Today, the judge really liked yellow labs. How much? Well... ok so for all 5 of the 'class dogs', both for male and female dogs.. (for 10 total) and then Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex and Reserve..
That's 13 opportunities to put up black, yellow, or chocolate in first. He put up yellow first 13 of 13 times. Yeah. Honestly, he wouldn't have put Riddick up I don't think even if Riddick had been yellow, his weak conformation area is in the croup/tail juncture and the judge was very very attentive to that area. But still.. it wasa huge disappointment to all the people who had black adn chocolate labs :P
Still, Riddick again did awesome in the ring, I'm very glad for the experience. I don't think we're going to do any more shows until the end of october, there's sweepstakes and supported entries (IE, lots of opportunities to win).
