I am totally outraged by this. Since not everyone may want to see the pictures I'll just post the article...
Whilst some countries in Asia such as Hong Kong, the Philippines and Taiwan have banned the practice of dog eating, evidence shows that in China, the biggest dog eating country in the world, it continues to thrive.
It is estimated that upto 10 million dogs are slaughtered every year in China, many deliberately slowly and cruelly in the belief that "torture equals taste", whilst all suffer the stress and pain of being farmed in concentrated numbers before being killed in a variety of ways which rarely ensures a quick and humane death.
Animals Asia field investigators have witnessed trucks loaded with anything upto 2,000 dogs per truck arriving at the wholesale Hua Nam Wild Animal Market in Guangzhou. These poor animals have spent 3 days and 3 nights, squashed together in tiny cages, unable to move, without food, water or shelter. The dogs are then brutally lifted by the neck and hurled into a pen by a man wielding a metal tongs. Here they fight through fear, hunger and desperation to survive whilst awaiting a horrendously slow death in order to provide meat for restaurants in Guangzhou.
Diseases such as parvo virus, canine distemper and leptospirosis are rife and spread like wildfire in dogs whose immune systems are already low due to depression and starvation. We often witness a large number of dead and diseased dogs and cats which have been pulled out of the cages and slung by the side.
The dog meat trade is becoming increasingly industrialized and is even promoted by the government in some provinces. Huge dog farms have been developed and the importation of giant gentle breeds, like the St. Bernard, which is cross bred with the local Chinese mongrel to produce a fast growing, docile “meat dog” that can be slaughtered at 4 months. Livestock sections of large bookshops stock books and VCDs on dog farming which promote horrific slaughter methods, in the misguided belief that the more the dog suffers the better the meat will taste. Consequently, vacuum packed and canned dog meat are becoming increasingly available in some supermarkets.
Investigations also reveal that the fur from slaughtered dogs is now entering local and international markets and being used as "trim" for fashion items, or for trinkets such as keyrings and hair accessories.
Animals Asia has examined arguments ranging from those referring to culture, to those which state that, as long as the animal does not suffer, then eating dog meat is no different to eating the meat of other domestically raised animals such as pork, chicken and beef. However, we believe that to advocate humane slaughter for dogs would legitimize the practice and undermine the tireless and effective work of those Asian countries that have recently outlawed the practice. Time and time again, dogs across the world have proved their unique qualities and how valuable they can be in partnership with people. We believe that they should not be part of the food chain.
The scale of the cruelty is immense, but our recent survey on China’s largest internet portal - Sina.com - had over 5,000 responses and showed that many Chinese people are passionately against the idea of eating our “best friends”.
Education is the key to ending their misery and Animals Asia needs your help as we tackle the problem with positive programmes like Doctor Dog and brand new initiatives like the wide distribution of our innovative inhouse film "Dr. Eddie: Friend or Food?" - inspiring and compelling a reconsideration of attitudes at a grass roots level.
But I am not very suprised by this, humans have done and still do similar kind of slaughtering to their own fellow humans as well. During war times people have been put in to camps and cages and slaughtered.
Unfortunately to say maybe not as much as in China but even in US thousands of dogs are put to sleep every year. Not for the purpose of eating but for different reasons. Recently I saw a documentary on this and I was shocked to learn that.
Nothing new, Koreans love eating dogs too. Feel sorry for them, but you can't do anything about it. Major cities are making laws that don't let ppl slaughter dogs, maybe in the next 50 years they'll get to everyone. Not just china, but all over the world. We use to do it in prehistorical times too, some people see eating dogs the same as eating a cow or a pig. Have you ever eaten dog?

And sometimes the faux fur in clothes may contain dog or cat fur if it's from China. Not saying it's with everything but be ware that some of it may. Disgusting. Especially when they skin them after knocking them out/dead... some are not always dead.
Just think about it while we are chatting now, dogs are being eaten. Wow, animals go through **** everywhere in the world. In asian countries they eat dogs. In america people abandon dogs, and thousands get euthinized every year. We take their reproductive organs, tails, crop ears, declaw them. Sometimes I think that man shouldn't have ever domesticated wolves. But as long as you love and care for them, you have a life long companion. Many people just act oblivious towards the outside world. Not all asians eat dogs, there are many that love them too.

I only eat free range meat. I believe IF you must eat an animal it should have lived its life to the fullest and have a quick, nonpainful death. Cutting a whole out of the bottom of a dogs foot and letting it bleed to death is cruel and unusual. Skinning a live dog is cruel and unusual. Same for cows, chickens, and pigs.
After looking at that I couldn't help but give Riley a big big hug...
You know, since we kill so many unwanted dogs in shelters, I can't really say that the acutal killing and eating of the dogs is 'wrong', at leat they are going for a purpose of maybe feeding a starving family and not just because they are an inconvienience to the public.
I do obviously take issue at the way they are handled and contained and actually killed. No animal should be allowed to be tourtured to 'spice up the meat'. That just an ignorant myth or even if it is TRUE it should not be allowed and people torturing any animal should suffer the same fate.
OMGSH. I wish I didn't see that. If they wanted to eat it at least treat it better instead of just stacking it up & letting that poor St. Bernard be stuffed in that little cage not even fit for RABBITS. ugh. People these days!
forst off the website is from an extremist group. the cages are crab pots for crab fishing. that is a bit weird. also i think the facts about how the dogs are dying and the rituals maybe sqewed as well. as for eating dogs, i personally would not. it is against my morality and culture. but we do eat animals that have similar emotion and intellgence levels. deer, cows, pigs. now i will not bash a culuture i purely am foriegn to. and agian unless i witness this for myself or from a friend i trust. i am suspicious. this might as well have been placed by a niegbor or a guy at work. to us dogs are friends to chinese it is food. that is culuture shock. i lived in thailand for awhile and ther eit is normal for two male heterosexual friends to hold hands. not a social grace here in the west. but non the less i did not critize. and if it is true on the slow death, may god be with them in heaven, cause i am going to hell for the crimes i will commit in the afterlife.
proabably tourist, activist group. Dog taste like lamb and rabbit taste like chicken. just to add chinese people do have dogs of their own for protection. They usually eat the first litter, but they would rarely eat the second or third litter. I don't know y, but I have been to china and have been told this.
