personaly i think that Great Danes are adorable without cliped ears, but i have ta be honest...i didn't know that most got their ears clipped untill i saw them natural on one of those puppy sites...i thought they were born that way...i know it sounds stupid but that's what i thought. even though they are absolutly the cutest things with them natural i think that they don't look like true Great Danes...i guess it's just because i have never seen them natural before. though they still look just as friendly either way. i don't think anyone could mistake a smile for a snarl from a great dane. what's everyone else's oppion? sorry, i didn't mean to post this twice....minniyar or ADMIN could u delete the other one?
I think they are awesome either way!!! You just knew i'de say that! I think the cropped look makes them look more noble and dignified where as the natural look makes them look more adorable. Either way they are the perfect dog IMHO. :) Good indoors, on a farm or in an apartment. Great with people of all sizes they are truly gentle giants. Handsom, friendly but not overbearing, playful but don't need to run a marathon, loyal but not aggressive they truly are The Apollo of Dogs!!! ;)
Danes are actgually one of the breeds I definitely prefer the uncropped look of. I agree, when their ears are cropped, they do look so dignified and regal. But when I go to dog shows, their ears *so* want to just flop over, because they are so big and heavy. But since it seems to be harder to get their ears to stand up than it is on some other breeds with smaller ears like dobermans, I like them uncropped.
AKC General appearance "Breed Standard General Appearance The Great Dane combines, in its regal appearance, dignity, strength and elegance with great size and a powerful, well-formed, smoothly muscled body. It is one of the giant working breeds, but is unique in that its general conformation must be so well balanced that it never appears clumsy, and shall move with a long reach and powerful drive. It is always a unit-the Apollo of dogs. A Great Dane must be spirited, courageous, never timid; always friendly and dependable. This physical and mental combination is the characteristic which gives the Great Dane the majesty possessed by no other breed. It is particularly true of this breed that there is an impression of great masculinity in dogs, as compared to an impression of femininity in bitches. Lack of true Dane breed type, as defined in this standard, is a serious fault. " "This physical and mental combination is the characteristic which gives the Great Dane the majesty possessed by no other breed." ooooh la la always gives me goose bumps!!
And "With a big heart to match it's majestic size, the Great Dane is a loyal, intelligent and trustworthy companion whose size alone is enough to scare off intruders. Nicknamed "the Apollo of Dogs" because of it's incredible good looks and noble stature, the Great Dane originated in Germany where it is known as "Deutsche Dogge" (German Hound) or German Mastiff. " from http://www.dogpage.us/greatdane.htm Did you note the "incredible good looks" ??? :0 k, i'll stop pimping.
LOL actually my husband was interested in getting a dane for a while, but they are soooo tall! We finally decided against getting one because we wanted to do performance events, and outside of obedience and agility, there's not really anything open to some working group dogs like danes.
