A lot of these good quaility food that everyone is listing are VERY high in protein and fat. What if a dog has to be on a low protein and a low fat diet. What would you suggest then? I am feeding Natural Balance right now, and both my minpins do very well on it.
what do u guys think about holistic and trader joe's dog food? I think it's pretty good, but if you guys haven't have any good or bad experiences with those 2 brands please let me know. I'm planning to make a permanant change.

i make my own food, all human grade meat right from the grocery store, chicken, fish, lamb, beef, duck, chickens feet, chicken livers, beef heart, turkey necks, green tripe blueberries, bannanas, celery, carrots, apples, pears, green beans, kelp, flax seed, alfalpha, vitamins c, e , and b complex, glucosamine and chondrotin. all on the sesame seed bun. all preserved by freezing. feed RAW. and the one thing i like about this, I asm absolutley 100% positive that it is the best thing for a dog to eat, no arguing about what kibble is better. it is not just adequate (sp?) it is optimal
Hectorluver- you are right in saying that hotspots are ooozing skin infections, however they are caused by allergies. What happens is a dog itches in one spot continually until they irritate it enough to become a hot spot. Many skin problems are associated with food allergies, so it is possible that switching the food could help the dog's skin problems.
For our lab, i just switched to Diamond or Kirkland not sure if i like it yet. He has been throwing up, not sure if its the food, (I remember him doing this every few months.) I used to feed purina one sensitive systems.
For our puppy, im trying chicken soup for puppies, i read the ingredience for diamond puppy and didn't think it was as good as the one diamond that our lab is on.
The kind of Diamond that i brought, said no corn or by products, the other kinds of Diamond bags didn't say that.
When a friend went to cosco i asked her to pick up a bag of the lamb and rice kirkland since i thought it would be equal to the Diamond. when i read the ingredience, it didn't match the no corn, no by product Diamond Lamb and rice iam still going to try it, in fact i just started mixing it with the Diamond. Boston has dry skin so i am a little worried. I still give flaxseed supplement.
