I live in NC and we have tons a ticks. I had a stray cat take up here last week covered in ticks...over a hundred of them. I picked all I could off of her and then put some frontline on her. She doesn't have any on her at all now. Also every time I go into the woods on my property I get tons of little "seed" ticks on me. That is what they are called. They are little tiny things. But my dogs are treated with Frontline every month on the 1st and none of them have any ticks on them at all. So Frontline does work if used consistinly.
Glad you got the ticks off Gina. Sorry, I didn't think about the bleach bath if your skin was sensitive. Sounds like the alcohol worked though. We usually just put a cup or so in a full bath.
And having dealt with 'seed ticks' my entire life on myself as well as my dogs, it is not that harmful even if they do get on your dog. These tiny ticks are not nearly as damaging as the large (mature) ticks. They cannot bury very well, so they don't actually tap into a blood supply, but mostly get full off of skin secretions/oils. They don't stay on very long...usually only a day or two. Then they fall off to proceed with morphing into their 2nd stage of life, what we call 'yearlings'.
And to peanut--- The odds of her dogs having them to the degree that she did are actually quite slim. These masses of seed ticks will all be on one leaf or plant (questing--is what this is called). You can brush this plant and get most of them while the dogs that are walking 2 feet away will have none.
Spraying down with "Deep Woods Off" or another insect repellent will keep them off of you to a degree. I have also heard that a diet rich in garlic helps to repel them too! Guess that's okay for me...I LOVE garlic.
I called my doctor this morning and she told me basically the same thing you did. I was worried about Lyme Disease...She reassured me and recommended I wash with an exfoliating scrub she said if there were any stray ticks the exfoliater would help scrub them away. They were actually easy to get rid if they just kinda wiped off they didnt really stick to me like I was imagining.
Excuse me peanut, were you at GinaH's house? Did you see if she checked her dogs to make sure they did not have any ticks.
Because I know how much Gina loves her dogs and if they were covered in ticks you can bet your bitchy a$$ that she would have taken care of them and made sure they were 100% gone. Maybe you should not ASSUME that Gina did not check her dogs for ticks, just because she did not mention in does not mean it did not happen.
