Does anyone know of any breed of dog that can sense when his human may have a seizure? I have heard that there are certain dogs that have the ability to sense when a seizure is about to occur and somehow alerts his human.
I saw a show about that several years ago, but not sure if it was on Animal Planet or one of the television news shows such as 60 Mintes or 20/20. I don't think it was any particular breed of dog but they several different breeds that were able to predict seizures.
This got me curious because I have epilepsy I have since I was a kid. I didnt start having Grand mal seizures until I was 19 they went uncontrolled and I got no aurora for many years. Only in the past few years I have really gotten a hold on it, but there are still times that I have the onset of a seizure without any warning.
I read several article about this online this one was a good one.
Another show I saw just came to mind, but I'm not sure if it was the same one I mentioned seeing before or a different program,. Not sure if the woman had seizures, but I remember that she was diabetic and had a St. Bernard, who saved her life when she went into a diabetic coma. The dog was trained to help her in various daily chores and would lean and lay across the dog when she wanted to work in her garden.
Gina, I'm so sorry to hear you've had suffer through seizures, but glad to know thy've gotten better even though you still may get one witout any warning. I think a dog that would warn you of an upcoming seizure would be wonderful for you.
