FOR ALL THOSE WHO CAN HELP A ANIMAL OUT
Transport Provided to Anywhere - Room Desperately Needed! (For the Animal Victims of Katrina)
There is transportation provided, with people ready and waiting, for upwards of 200 dogs and 150 cats so far rescued from the devastation of hurricane Katrina. What these animals need is a place to go. Kennels, boarding, vets offices, shelters with any extra space, foster homes and rescues. Even one or two open kennels would greatly help. From what we know, all animals have been vaccinated and are in good health considering the conditions. There are dogs and cats of every breed and size. Some are in groups of two, three or four, hailing from the same family, while some are solitary. ANY KENNEL SPACE AVAILABLE CAN CERTAINLY BE USED. These drivers are willing to move these animals ANYWHERE they need to go. Absolutely anywhere.
The current safe houses for these animals are being inundated and some of these pets will have to be euthanized if they are not moved to make room for the incoming animals. Please feel free to pass on this information everywhere. Every forum, every list, every community.
REMEMBER THESE ANIMALS WILL BE TRANSPORTED TO YOU.
If you know anyone, anywhere, that is willing to take in even one cat or dog, please have them contact Lynda at the information provided below.
They are also asking for ANY kind of donations for the animals - money, food, bedding, water, etc.
Please Contact Lynda V. at: 203 515 3024 (cell)

Please contact at any time, day or night. These volunteers, rescuers and shelter workers are working around the clock.
I emailed. I don't know if they are willing to drive them all the way up here (MI) but even if they could get them to Indianpolis, Columbus, Chicago or Detroit I would drive. I ask everyone to do the same. Ask yourself what you can take even if it may be a little inconvienient. Think about all the trauma the famlies and pets have went through. A little extra work and expense in your own home doesn't seem that bad.
Im in California, i would take a dog and cat and i know my mom would be willing to take in 1 more cat. I know its not much but i guess every bit of help helps.Im not sure if they would bring a dog this far but i want to offer my help
I wanted to mention a hero name Robert Gentil of Daytona beach Florida. My dog was severely dyhydrated and was going to die, my neighbor new of this man that came here to New orleans to help peoples pets and to give aid with IV'S and nutritional supplements. Robert Gentil immediatly hooked my baby dog to an IV than started tube feeding this mixture of dog food with electrolyes and vitamins, he also mixed up a Gatorade cooler with Electrolyes for people to drink, he is amazing, he saw people falling over from heat and exhaustion and he helped them, I personally seen him go up to lost dogs and cats and gave them hydration and food, no one knows who they belong to but he cared for them anyway. My precious baby is alive now because this man Robert Gentil cared enough to help me and others. Where ever you are Robert Gentil I love you for being that angel I prayed for, my lil baby thanks you! I have his email if anyone needs a caring pet professional to help them. Here it is RobertHealthyPet@aol.com
I volunteered at our local red cross shelter yesterday and a man was saying he had three dogs that he had to leave behind and wanted to be able to find. Do you think if i posted an address i could get any info for him? I don't even know his name because my boyfriend actually got him checked in but i would be willing to find out if it would help, he seemed so upset... it broke my heart
I called her number and left a message on the machine. I have no fence,am on half an acre, but am willing to house/foster animals if she wants to get them to me here in TN.
AS all of you know,I have my rescue Faith, and a female(spayed,declawed)cat....they both live inside, and have full run of the house night and day. I am good with animals,as my years of volunteering as a younger person taught me a lot about socialization and care....not to mention,I've always had my personal family members(cats and dogs)all of my life. I'm a lot more familiar with cats and the much larger breeds of dogs, but have had a few smaller breeds as well and loved them all!

Hi, my name is Ruby Smith, volunteer with the Humane Society of West Louisiana! We are fielding HUNDREDS of calls from people effected by Hurricane Katrina because we are the closest Humane Society with a working telephone! (appx 4 hours west of New Orleans in Rosepine, LA) We are doing all we can but have one big problem. SPACE! We are taking as many strays from the area as possible but are having hard time finding room for the family owned pets that are having to be given up! These are people who have NO choice but to give up their beloved pets due to this catastrophe. We are looking for help from Breed Specific Rescues to find homes for these babies!
If you know anyone involved in rescues, or any other rescue group or person who is willing to help out please contact the Humane Society of West Louisiana! It is feasible that we will be getting more and more calls from owners who are having to make the choice of surrendering their pets but we just do not have the room for them! Thank you So much and please, continue to pray for the victims of Katrina, both human and pets!

Well... Rita is now the 4th person/organization that I have left my information with that I can take up to 10 dogs. I said that I would drive up to 300 miles in any direction to meet someone in any major city. No one has contacted me. It is so frusterating. The other thing I have is a universal micro-chip scanner, which could help reconnect micro-chipped pets with owners. Oh well... I guess I will just sit here and nothing.
The people and animals stricken by Hurricane Katrina will need many kinds of help over the coming days and weeks. We will update this page as specific needs arise.
If you are able to offer foster care and other temporary facilities, disaster assistance, transportation or other volunteer assistance, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 435-644-2001 ext. 398. Please make sure to include your name and complete contact information. We will contact you as soon as possible. ________________________________________________
The original organization posted was a false print....they e-mailed me later to tell me they were never in need of foster homes. I have though found a organization that is about ready with fosters and are having them transported. They are all surrendered by their owners and they are searching for adoptees or foster homes for them. I have been working feverishly since the disaster to attempt to help, this is the first place that has come through for me, here is the letter I received:
I told you I wouldn't forget you. See... some people really do what they say they will. Just to try to help reinforce your faith in your fellow dog lovers. O.K. Here is where we stand right now. I am coordinating a trip down to either LA, or MA to return with dogs that have been turned in and can be adopted or fostered. These dogs will come with health certificates, and rabies vaccines. As well as other vaccines. I can't guarantee they will be spayed or neutered. I can tell you they will have to be within a certain period of time once you receive them. Also keep in mind what will you do if you aren't happy with the pet? I'm also working with a few different groups that do transports. If I can arrange to get a pet to you what type are you looking for? Do you only want to foster or do you want to adopt? How many pets do you have now? Are they spayed and neutered? Are your pets up to date on vaccines? On heartworm preventative and flea control? I took a dog yesterday on a leg of his long journey from South Florida to PA. 17 different people and as many vehicles helped to transport this little guy. So if we can do that I'm sure we can arrange a way to get a pet or 2 to you. If I can speak to your vet, or have a local rescue group interview you it would certainly make the entire process go smoother. Don't take any of that personally. All reputable rescue groups require a home visit, interview, or at the very least checking your pets shot records at your vet. If you're still interested let me know. Thanks for caring, Denise
