I'm fostering this really old, skinny dog who has some kind of skin problem but thats getting better. Anyway she was left at my work tied up with a note saying to put her down. So we saved her and Im keeping her for a week to keep her out of our kennel situation and then a long term foster will take her.
Anyways yesterday something weird happened. I took her in the yard to do her businesse. So she peed and continued sniffing around the yard, when i noticed this long thing, that looked like a real long worm hanging out of the place she pees from. So not her bottom and not her vagina. Anyways I thought it was a worm but when it fell off I noticed it wasnt and it looked more like mucous or something like that. Anyone ever seen this before, or know what it could be?
Im gonna tell my Vet at work today but im so curious as to what this is, i was hoping someone could tell me before i go to work, so i have an idea. Anyways I hope it isnt anything serious. Thanks
do you know if the dog has been spayed ? if not it could be a sign of a pyometra. is she has, then probably a vaginitis. i would take her to work with you so they can run blood tests and do an xray to rule in/out a pyo.
a vaginitis can be treated with antibiotics. the only way to cure a pyo is by spaying her. well not the only way but the best and surest way. could be someting real simple like a bladder infection too.
let us know how it goes and what your vet finds =)
Thanks Scout! You make me feel better, she already has so many problems that we are fixing and I got worried we might loose her to this new thing. I made her an appointment for tomorow, and I'll let you guys know what happens.
Good news though is that her long term foster home is going to be taking her tomorow, so she will finally be in a stable enviroment surronded by love. Im so happy for her, I'll be sad to see her go. She gets so excited to see me, I feel bad leaving her.
Ivy, thanks for your kind thoughts, poor thing has been through a lot.
