My Sweet Lord you must have really hurt your mommy when you were born being all grown and fully educated like you were.
I can only assume you have never given birth yourself or you would remember how many questions you had that the books/parents/friends/doctors didn't cover.
Shame on you! How is anyone going to learn if they don't ask questions. You can have the most tested, shown dog in the world and still never have raised a litter.
I remember my first litter of puppies, they were Chows. Mom was a champion as was Dad. This was a lot of years ago, maybe 30. I read everything I could get my hands on, I talked the ear off anyone I could corner. After my umpteenth phone call to my wonderful and normally very patient vet I was told they were the same as any other D**N dog and that she would have puppies when the time was right. She did and he wasn't absolutely right but she did produce 8 healthy puppies. At that point I had already given birth to 5 babies of my own, you think I might have had some idea.
How about a little support, and education instead of standing in judgement and scareing poeple away. Now just maybe the person is a troll but maybe they aren't.

Thank you TJRuff. It is very sad that someone comes to a pet discussion forum to ask questions and they get stupid answers. There is no other way for people to find out stuff if they don't ask, then they come somewhere that the people should all be animal lovers for advice and they get shot down.
Hearay & TJRuff Thanks for your Kindness. And Yes I have 3 kids of my own but I get worried about little things. I see that there are some people judging me. It is so hard to ask questions on the internet because so many people jump down your throat. I will call the vet and see what see says . And I know she will not Judge me because she even asked me when my Dane was small if I ever thought about having pups with that beatiful dog! Thanks again Hearay and TJRUFF
And for people that Judge me, I am sorry that is the way you feel. I know you have some reason to be like that. I respect you. My dane is FULL AKC Registered and so is the male dane. And if she is having pups I already have homes for them. And Yes She is being fixed after this. I take care of my dane. She is well taken care of.
Danelover...I will try to address your question the best I can.. First...how pregnant do you think she might be...My one shepherd doesnt show shes for sure pregnant until the 7th week...the last time I thought for sure she would only have 5 to 6...but gave birth to 10 to our suprise. So...Bulk in a dog is no indicator. Danes tend to be lean also...so she might take a long time to show..or she might blossom right away...since it is your first...we will have to wing it..The skulls begin to form at like 40 some days of pregnancy...so count the first day the dog tied...and if you can get an xray...much more affordable then ultrasound...and easier to get...my county vet didnt even offer one..so...might not have a machine..Keep in mind..xrays are not fool proof...my schnauzer had 5 pups the vet didnt see...he saw poop he said..but no pups...
They seem to get a bit puffy far in the back...but down by where the back legs come to the body...The closer you get the changes in her vaginal area will be ararent...will seem to look bigger. I assume that you kept track of the tie dates so get her a box or pool ( easy to keep clean...well for a while any way) and she will start to nest and fret as time gets close...Mine...generally cant hold there bladder or bowls as long any more the closer they get...like say the last 2 to 3 weeks..Bumber...but fact of life...everything is getting pressure..so dont be alarmed and dont chastise her...she cant help it...
And of course please feed good quality food and lots of it the last 3 weeks and the whole time she has pups...Birth will take so much out of her and she needs to be well nurished to make good milk for the babies...and to keep her healthy too...You dont want her body to rob from her teeth, hair and bones to get the nutrients needed for the pups...
Good luck and please get back to us on a few particulars on this dog..Like how far along and we can add to this as you express the need for more info...Ill help with any birthing tips I can...I say its gross and yucky...but you wanted pups ( as I love them too...) and they will be a handfull...but when we are playing with or watching them we know why we do it all...I love to see and hear from people who have gotten our pups and you can tell how happy they are...makes it all worth while...Good Luck...Please give us pics...would love to see your gal
Hello There HURONBREEZe, Thanks for your help! At least you did not judge me like some people. Liberty started her cycle on 9/7/05 She tied with the male dane on 9/15/05 and then again on 9/1705. For a week now she has been Eating like she never ate before. And barks at everything and anything.LOL! She also licks her vulvo all the time non stop. And her cycle ended Today. She is still swollen in her vulvo. If you can give me your Personal E-Mail address I rather talk to you from there so nobody else Jugdes me. If not I will understand. Do you think she will be having pups from the dates she tied. I just want to take care of her all the way. She is like my 4th child. I will also send you pick of her asap. And please wite back and I will tell you more
She should have her pups around 11/17. SOME dogs get morning sickness and throw up about 2-3 weeks after being bred. After that they get puffy/full looking. A great book is dog owner's home veterinary handbook by James Giffin. It has a great chapter on whelping and care of pups and problems you might have and what to do. High quality food is a must. Ask your vet about what and what not to give her as far as flea , heartworm meds and what is safe now.
Mammamia, That is quite ok! I understand. But believe me If my Dane does have puppies I will not let them go to homes that are not big enough or in city living. I moved out of the city and rent a house for $1,000 so my dog and kids have more space to play. So dont worrie about it!
If Liberty is Pregnant can I still give her Her Heart worm chewables and FrontLine Flea & Tick Meds? She is due for both on 10/10/05. I am going to make an appt. with the vet today. Thanks for all the help you are giving me and Advice!!
danelover, i will take one of your pups, i use to own one and show and had one litter also. write me and let me know how many she has and if there is one in that litter for me, e-mail me a pic of mom and dad if you can.
hello Tammy/Danelover...sure...my email is email@example.com I try never to judge any one...I like to present both sides and let people make the decision that is good for them...Really good danes are hard to find..just as in my opinion resally good german shepherds...or several other breeds...Do it the very best way you can..and never stop learning..and asking questions...I have really learned so much over time from places like this...good luck to you...and contact me when ever you like..I had satalite problems so was not on a day or so...but all is well now..take care..
