Hi, just a question about bulldogs. My sister-in-law adopted one a few years back and during screening with the breeder was asked if she lived anywhere near water (ie lakes, ponds etc). If she did she would not be allowed to adopt one of her bullies since "bulldogs will try to swim and can't"??? I look at your website and see pictures of your dogs in a lake! She has been terrified to take this dog a lot of places with them because of the water thing. Now I suspect because of their body shape swimming would be pretty much difficult. But how dangerous is it to take a bully to water?
In reponse to the water question, English Bulldogs are top heavy. They have heavy heads, which makes it hard for them to stay a float for a long time. If you look at an English from the side you would understand, their heads will tip them forward in the water.
Keesha63: Usually the English Bulldogs can sink only:) So, keep out them from deep water. We have one bulldog (Zoli) who can swimm a little:). But he is enormous, strapping young male (you could to see in the male section of our website)
In summer we often go to the river Danube. There are lot of flat sand banks with shallow water and the bulldogs like running and playing in the "chest-high" water. This is very healthy for them...This was what you saw in the "other pictures" section.
