The first thing to do is wait until your dog is minimal of 2 years old and have all of his health testing done. Does he make a excellent specimen of his breed standard? I didn't ask if he just makes an excellent pet but you have to consider his breed standard as one of the top priorities. Chis are not a highly needed dog right now as there are MANY already bred and in need of homes.
I personally would not breed a chi because so many chis already need homes. Too many people are breeding chihuahuas due t o their popularity and monetary value. The choice is yours. I volunteer at the shelters and I see too many homeless dogs including chihuahuas.
Geeze, don't know where you all live (I'm in western AZ), but I had a really hard time finding a CHI, I wanted a female and everytime I would call on an ad, the females were gone. Took me 2 yrs. and we had to go to Phoenix to get a good one!!
I think you misunderstood what we were saying.......She doesn't need to get one unaltered, there are too many chis that need homes for everyone with a good looking dog to breed them. My point was, I do not think she should stud this boy out because chihuahuas are too popular right now and many of them are ending up in shelters and rescues.
