I just bought a white german shepard from someone. The dog had puppies 2 months ago. I have never owned a female dog so I don't know much about dogs being in heat. She is bleeding a little bit, so I dont know if this means that she is in heat or if there is something else wrong with her.

Your best bet would be to take her to the vet right away. Most dogs only cycle every 6 months, sometimes longer so it is unlikely that she is in heat again. She could have an infection or some other sort of medical emergency!!

Your female does need to be seen by the vet....infection is most likely the reason for the bleeding. My baby did the same thing as yours seems to be doing. Antibiotics should help....don't get freaked out over this....stay calm and things should be alright after vet check and meds.

She actually could be in heat. lets see . . . 63 days normally for pups to be born then another 2 months of the mom taking care of the pups Right there is 4 months. Two more months and bingo the dog is in heat again. That would be 6 months. Normally dogs do go in heat every 6 months. Some are 6-8 months. All the ones I have been learning from are every 6 months.

If you feel funny about it though take her to the vet. That way you will know forsure.

I would take her to the vet. She is either in heat again, or she has a vaginal infection. I have one Sheltie female that gets an infection after every litter. We put her on a week of Clavamox (after doing a vaginal culture to make sure she does have an infection) and she is fine. Of course, the longer they have the infection the longer it takes to clear up.

Most females dog will cycle anywhere from every 4 months to every 10 months. I have an Aussie female that cycles every 4 1/2 months and a Sheltie girls that goes every 10 months. Everyone else is in the middle.

Unless you have a good reason for keeping her intact I would recommend spaying and then you'll never have to worry about it again. If you want to breed, do your homework. To be safe, you should have full understand of the canine reproductive cycle before deciding to breed.
