rocky, my male french bulldog, has allergies. his nose always has a crusty patch on the one side and his eyes goober up alot. i have had him and my female frenchie annie, on royal canin, vp complete, chicken soup and now i,m going to try a new one. this is an allergy formula and i hope it works. its not cheap either. 25.99 for a 17 lb bag. its called natural balance potato & duck formula. has anyone ever heard of it or tried it? its frustrating trying to find a food that works for your dog. so i hope this will be the right stuff. i still give them the canned merricks too. they go nuts over the grammy pot pie. but i'm wondering if i should take it away for awhile and feed them only the kibble to see if his allergies clear up
I feed my Westies Natural Balance food rolls and kibble. they love the rolls whch look like a large sausage roll. I buy the 4# rolls. its the best food I've found. kinda spendy but worth it. I dry the rolls for treats too. we buy lamb & Rice or Beef & Rice. havent any allergy probs at all.
Mason, my male English Bulldog also has allergies and was even loosing his hair. I had heard about the natural balance duck and potato was suppose to be good for dogs with allergies so I switched Mason to it and also put him on a liquid called dreamcoat that I got from a near health food store. He has been on it a month or 2 and all of his hair has grown back and he had hives all the time and now his coat is as smooth as I dont know what. I would defiently give the natural balance duck and potato a try Mason absolutly loves the food and the treats that go with it. Its not that cheap of food but heck I figured if it helped it would be worth it. Now he only has problems with his face itching but if I clean it everyday it doesnt seem as bad. Good luck hope you can find something that will help his allergies.
all 3 of my dogs are on natural balance potato and duck.its a really good food.and they have treats to.my dogs love this and it helped them with food allergies.i buy the 17lb bag and it lasts them about a month and half.how much food are you giving them a day?
dogs do not need as much food as the bag says.
my trainers rottie weighs 70 lbs and eats 3 cups a day.her boxers weighs 88lbs and he eats 1 cup a day.
i would try this food. and stay on it 8-10 weeks before switching again.
i did buy the 17 pound bag. i dont know how long it will last the two frenchies. i keep the food out all day and they will nibble off and on during the day. i feed them a can of merricks a day and they gobble it right up. they just eat the kibble here and there. hopefully i will see a difference in rocky. i have to clean his eye everyday, it gets so goobered up. hopefully this food will make a difference. i still have my gsd on the chicken soup. he does well with it and really likes it. but he doesnt have the allergies like rocky does.
Must be something going around! About 3 1/2 weeks ago I had my Bichon Frise groomed, same day I switched his food from Nutro natural choice lamb and rice puppy to royal canin puppy (has chicken and corn) days later he started itching, and chewing his back paws. Yesterday we went to the vet and then over to petco where I bought the Natural Balance duck and potato! I didn't switch him gradually because I figured if it was the royal canin I needed that out of his system asap, he's eating the duck and potato great--better than he has any food other than the canned stuff from the vet! They didn't have the 17# bag at our petco, which I might be interested in buying since we're getting a Lhasa apso pup next week.
I also have switched 2 of my dogs over to Natural Balance Sweet Potato/fish. I originally switched for Lil Ricky, my epileptic boy, who needs a totally grain free food. The added bonus was that Bandit (aka Mr Finicky) likes it too and it doesn't bother his extremely sensitive stomach. I also buy the potato/duck treats for Ricky (although they're not his favorite treat). I haven't tried any of the rolls because I've never run across a potato/duck or SP/fish roll. I do have to have my PetCo special order the SP/fish, they carry the potato/duck & every other NB dry food, but, of course, not the one I need. A 27 lb bag cost me $47....stupid me sent hubby to pick it up - I thought he was gonna have a cow, but all I had to say was "it's for Ricky" and it's okay.
Ricky starts the addition of potassium bromide to his phenobarb tonite. Every one say a little prayer that it does the trick & gets his seizures under better control.
