Scout, I just wanted to tell you good luck and that I am pulling for you. I don't smoke but I do unfortunately eat. I weigh 175 now, up from 155 earlier this year. I've gotta quit eating, you need to quit smoking. I'll diet if you will quit, ok? I'm serious. I'm just going to do it. Diet's on starting...............now.
I better not see you with a cig in your mouth (although I am unsure how I would from Arkansas...)
thank you so much everyone.......i have 15 laft and then i am done. i am going to go cold turkey instead of using anything to help. even being a smoker there are so many things i find disgisting about it.......especially the way the house smells like stale smoke when the weather isnt good enough to open the windows.......the way my clothes reek, even though i was told today that no one really smells smoke on me ever. i am afraid of winding up with lung cancer or throat cancer...or having to use oxygen rank to breathe.
i am ready to give it up.....but i am not afraid to. well a little afraid..more so for the personality change that will come then anything else. so i may just take a hiatus from here for a few days.
all your words of encouragement have helped more then you can imagine....THANKS =)
I tried three times to quit and if you are not in the right frame of mind and serious about it nothing will work.
When I finally did quit I tried cold turkey and was really having a hard time of it. I eventually gave in and tried the patch and it did work. Although I do have a cigar from time to time I havn't had a cig in 7 years now.
Hopsheltie-I'm dieting and quitting smoking. We're going to need another forum. Maybe I'll start one. I'll call it SCREAM!!!!!! LOL! Good luck to you. Get past a week and it gets much easier. I'm down 7 lbs.
Good Luck Scout and lalya...I wish you both luck.. Scout...Iwas a hard core major smoker...I started at 9 (brother get me to start so i could not tell on him) and smoked 3 to 4 packs a day until I was 31...I wanted desperatly to not smoke but didnt think i had enought will power to ever stop...well i went in for surgery..and i told myself that was it for smoking...So...I smoked on the way to the hospital and never again and it has been 14 years this May...I feel so much better and I used to say I had a cold since 1973...it was the smoking...the multi colored phlem...no one needs to feel like crap...Scout...try to figutre out where you dont smoke..If that means shower more..or do dishes nonstop...its worth it while the cravings are real strong...I have to say it took a good 5 years for the intense craving to not knaw at you...expect a long hard road...but well worth it..Please do what you can to quit...you will notice a difference in your health in 2 to 3 weeks...You will taste and smell things that you have not in ages...I have to tell you you will reach for them out of habbit...and things you do are automatic...please white kuckle it and it will eventually get better...please never quit quiting
good luck with the quitting~its all in the mind :)
I have quit for approx 3 months now and its tough..i went cold turkey. I have majorly cut down the time i spend on the computer as that was where i smoked the most. I have eaten more and gained alittle weight but i feel full of life again and more alert and awake and have gained control on what im eating..the 1st week was awfull i ate anything that werent nailed down lol
Sweets were my life saver as it kept my mouth busy.
If you lapse and smoke one dont be too hard on yourself..just put in behind you and carry one quitting :)
well congrats on your big decision... I don't smoke but my fiancee does... he's been asking around for help... the one everyone has told him is most effective is the shot... they say the worst pain ever but it works... so your decision...
My husband smoked when he and I got married it annoyed me but I tolerated it. But he quit cold turkey in 1997 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was so sick for weeks that I didnt even realize he had quit. When I finally did realize and asked him about it he just said he quit plain and simple...I now know that the thought of cancer scared him so bad that it was what he needed to quit and to this day he still craves one when he is around other people who smoke. I can only imagine how tough it must be to quit smoking but for your sake and your familys I hope and pray you can. Best of Luck!
scout1 I quit last year and I want to warn you, almost no matter what you do you will gain a few pounds! I am extremly active and managed to gain 30 pounds, so keep in mind that it's OK to gain a few pounds, if you cheat and have a puff do NOT beat yourself up, we are only human after all. If you are a healthy eater don't change that, but if you aren't watch what you eat, aim for good things. Eat celery if you want a smoke and if you can walk every time you have a craving. I used the patch, it was the only way for me, I was HORRIBLE without it and weaned myself off it. The other thing if you buy Nicorette brand you can cut them in half etc so when you get to No.3 you can go even lower, that's what I had to do. After 8 days without the patch I had a total meltdown! LOL
Good luck on quiting! I quit for about 4 months using the gum, but I wouldn't reccomemd it as it doesn't work all that well. Please keep us posted, I am always intreseted in ppl that quit successfully.
I have never smoked but my husband did and does again. When he quit in 89 it was after his back was broken and he couldn't go get any. He said he wanted to quit, so I would not buy any. It was very rough, but he quit for 15 years. He started again about a year ago. He is very ill and in and out of the hospital. The last time they had a new no smoking policy and they gave him the patch while he was there.
Today he said he wants to quit again so I went right out and bought a box of patches! I hope they work.
well i am officially out of cigarettes as of 4:30 this afternoon. asked dh to bring home some jolly ranchers for me. i am not a candy person but i do like them so thought they may help. instead of bringing home the hard ones he brought home the ones that are like starbursts. so.........plus he went and bought all the candy for the trick or treaters on halloween......i am thinking he is going to have to buy more come halloween lol.
