HELP!! My 6 month old beagle just doesn't get it. She has managed to tear up our wall in 3 places, eat wood siding off the walls outside, chew up furniture, and I could go on. She loves to bite -- including us (playfully). We have tried bitter apple spray but she doesn't seem to mind it. We keep her gated in our kitchen when we cannot watch her, but she us still a little Houdini. We keep her crated during the day when we are at work. Will she grow out of this? I have heard that beagles can be stubborn. My husband and I are really attached to her, but we are fixing to move into a new house next month and we certainly don't want her destroying everything. We have gone through "puppy kinder", she has plenty of toys, and she has lost all of her teeth.
Arm yourself with some 50 cent walmart water spray bottles and strategically place them all over the place. Anytime you catch her chewing on stuff, give her a squirt. If she isn't bothered by that, add a bit of vinegar to the water, the strong odor is very very offensive to dogs. It sounds like she isn't being supervised closely enough, honestly. Anytime you can't be right there watching her, put her in the crate, since she seems to be getting out of the kitchen area. Try and give her more exercise, beagles, like most hounds and sporting dogs can get destructive when bored. Or, keep her on a leash tied to your waist at all times. That way you will know exactly what she is doing when.
