Its hard to believe another month has passed and we are this close to the hoildays again. I have to keep the heartworm meds out in plain sight to remember to give them on the 1st of each month. That is one thing I strongly believe in doing for my dogs. They have been on heartworm perventive since they were babies.
Okay, a question for you. I usually give Merphy his on the first. Last month, it completely slipped my mind until I opened his backpack and saw them. It was the 13th, so I immediately gave him one then. Now, should I continue with the original schedule of the first of the month, or should I now give it to him on the 13th of every month?
The kids are getting theirs tomorrow. What do most of you do in the winter? I have 3 friends that are vets...1 says it's best to give all year, the other 2 say it's good to give a break in December, January, Feb.
Why would you skip Dec, Jan, Feb? I thought dogs can get worms from sniffing other dogs poo at any time . My vet told me to give it to him for the whole 12mo. Every vet is different. not wrong just have different ways of handling dogs they been doing it so long i guess .
Heartworms are transmitted by mosquitos so it just depends on where you live whether or not they will recommend it year round. Here in Texas and I'm sure all you other southerners would agree we are still having days up in the 80's and the mosquitos are horrible right now. (I've got the bites on my ankles and legs to prove it! yuk!) We give HW year round. I give mine on the 15th of every month so we've still got a few days. Thanks for the reminder! Its marked on the calender. :)
Amen!!! We do live in Texas and I know what you mean. We burn the fireplace in the mornings and air-conditioning during the day. Thats why I just give mine all year round. If I skipped two or three months I would probably really forget it.
