This post is in regards to all of the negative remarks. I was very active here at Terrific Pets for some time, but it got to me, with all the negativity. It was only from certain members, so I just quit coming here and only recently returned.
I come here to learn about dogs and to share my knowledge. I don't claim to "know it all", but I do have a good grasp on Labradors and enjoy sharing my experiences.
There comes a time, when those who like to share their negative thoughts need to sit back and read the rules, set forth by ADMIN. One of the rules, listed for all to see is to treat others with respect, please.
Start by looking for the good in others, instead of trying to force your negative attitudes upon those around you.
If you don't like a particular breed of dog, or breeds of dog or mixes, either skip that posting and don't read it, or better yet, read it and try to absorb some information and maybe learn a little about that person and their care of animals.
I didn't particularily care for Appalosa horses, yet you have NEVER seen me come on here sharing any distaste or disgust towards them or their owners. One of my best friends had a wonderful Appy mare named Star. Since it was his horse, I learned to appreciate the horse and eventually love her.
We were all created differently, thank goodness, or it would be a very boring place. Let's focus our energies upon something positive, instead of bashing. Remember, ADMIN also frowns upon breed and / or breeder bashing. Stick by the rules and stop being immature. Treat others with respect and people will treat you with respect. We all have a lot to learn.
Thank you for listening to my input, now I must toddle off to work.
Bassett, you answered thoe negative posts and incredibly rude questions about your placement policies with a lot of class and graciousness. I don't think I would have been so kind. And your pups are really cute.
I'm glad to see you posting again! It's such a large group here. I love debate, would be bored if everyone always agreed, but in such a large and varying group, there is no possible way that EVERYONE is going to know how to disagree and debate a topic without being ugly. It will never happen. But I hope you stick around for a bit. I have missed reading your posts.
Basset, I think you will find that since they made a few changes a couple of weeks ago, its been pleasant around here. I too was tired of the bashing and now I enjoy reading and learning without worrying about who is going to slam you.
I never did really see people disrespect one another on this forum.what i had observe was members giving their o/p when a certain topic came up that they didn't agree with.whats wrong with that? to disrespect someone would be foul cursing or calling people names. if i can't agree or disgree on something then this isn't the forum to be on.expl/ if i say i don't want my dog netured and someone say you are dead wrong you should have your dog netured ok that's her o/p it does'nt mean she disrepect me or even bash me. she gave her o/p. either i reply or i don't have to. if people don't beleive in mix breeding then so what that's how they feel.and if you come back and disgree with the person, and there's no name calling or cursing then i don't see anything wrong with giving your o/p. tell me if i'm wrong what do you call disrespect, bashing? I would relly like to know.
If i don't agree with something and give my o/p about the matter i would'nt call it disrespect or bashing. (cursing ,calling people names to me would be bashing and disrepect .but to comment on something or give your o/p about something you disagree with should'nt make one mad.of course it going to turn into a debate b/c neither or the other agree. and as long as it don't get out of hand then so be it .i don't like what you feed your dog lol...... would you call that being disrespect .? tell me if i'm wrong . i don't mind at all.
Thank you so much for your input and thanks for welcoming me back. Now that the weather is cooler, I won't be outside so much, so I should have more time to spend online.
I plan to move (temporarily) towards the middle or end of December, have lots to do before that time. Still working on the perfect home for Spotty, everyone that has contacted me about her lives soooooo far awy, I'd never get to see her again. :(
Thanks for the nice comments, I do try to maintain a mature, level attitude and not fall prey into arguing. Life is too short to be stressed out about what others say and do. I can only account for my own actions towards others and will continue to try to maintain a positive attitude.
The dogs are doing well, Tyke is such a joy to have around. Daisy is always sweet and just a love. My Spotty Polka Dotty is a dear girl, so loving and kind. Wish I was able to keep them all together, who knows, maybe something will work out. Wish me luck.
teacup, Im just wondering....when you use the abbreviation o/p what does it stand for? Opinion? I was just wondering...I usually use o/p to mean 'original poster'...just curious as to what you use it for :)
yes Acey i do use the o/p for opinion , but it's alright from now on i will just type out the word opinion.. see girl i get along with everyone no problem at all. i have so many friends -cats,dogs,monkeys deer, donkey mouse bird. lol..lol.. lol.....lol.....lol......... i got teacup picture up. chat with you guys tomorrow going home to let stinky out -teacup.lol......
I felt the same way about it which is why I stopped coming on anymore. Now I only do so when I have a major problem and I need serious feedback. Unfortunately, a lot of people have the habit of making the assumption that 'my way is the right way' and subsequently jump all over anyone else they don't agree with.
It's important to give an ear to all ideas and have respect for all ideas even if you can't stand them. Be nice.
So, yes I agree with you. Overly aggressive negative feedback is just a downer.
Well I for one almost never post on here anymore. When I do stop in to read the threads I notice that most of the regular people who were on here alot don't show up anymore, and in fact on this thread the only ones I recognize are Acey, and Shiny. And of course the OP. Perhaps thats why you like it better now, because the regular folks have disappeared.
Hey Boxer Babe - Yes, it is my Dalmatian. Her name is Spotty, my cousin is Missy. he he he
My Mom is elderly and on a limited income, so I am going to move to her home for the winter, so I can help her with her bills. In years past I helped her with her heat bills, and paid my own besides. With all the talk of natural gas going up 45 to 75% this heating season, I don't think I can afford to heat my own home, PLUS pay my Mom's bills too.
So, we both talked it over and decided that I should move into her home with her for the winter, to help her out. I'll put my furnace to the lowest setting it will go and just keep enough heat to stop the pipes from bursting.
I have the 3 dogs, my Mom has her Chihuahua and my son's Pit Bull mix already. The limit of dogs in one household is 4 in our "fair" city, so one has to go. I can't very well ask her to get rid of her dogs, so it will have to be one of mine.
Let me tell you, it was a gut wrenching decision to chose which dog has to go, it still breaks my heart to think of life without Spotty. I haven't found a new home for her yet, there have been several homes that sounded prominsing, but when it came down to actually having them take her, I haven't been able to do it yet.
So there is an update on life in Michian. Tell me about life in OZ. How is your Dad doing after his surgery? How about the dogs? Give some kisses to your Dal from Spotty Polka Dotty.
bassett...wonderful to see you online again...and I know Dog decisions are not made easily...I feel for you in your sittuation...But helping your Mother is the right thing...
I have been absent in the last few weeks...my internet connection was messed up...and isp didnt move very quick...no customer service...but satalight is up and wireless connection is running...slowly but runnong and I'mable to use it finally...
I dont know what has happened laltely but i think it seems par...as far as i remember some folks rant and rave...i personally wont let any one run me off...hope you dont either...
I agree with thlynda " Perhaps thats why you like it better now, because the regular folks have disappeared." If by regular folks she seems snotty senior members then I agree. Why is senior member so important anyway? It just means you have been here longer. OOOOOOOOOh big deal.
Yah, it's nice to think no one would know about us having 5 dogs, but my Mom's neighbor works for the city. She is nosey and although it was okay for her to have 4 full grown Golden Retrievers, sometimes 5 when her son is home with his dog, plus 18 puppies at one time, it is not okay for anyone else to bend the rules. She'd be the first one to report an extra animal in her home, which is sad, but that's the case.
I am still doing everything in my power to keep all 3 of my dogs, will pray that something works out. As I said, life without Spotty wouldn't be the same.
