Just out of curiosity, what do you have on your dogs ID tag? I have Riley's name, address, and phone number. But then he also has his Microchip tag (AKC CARR), his insurance tag (with a 1800# to call if found), and his rabies tag. A bit much ya think? lol. We are just out so much, especially off leash, that I worry.
Maggie has her name, my name, address and phone number. I live out in the country, and even though we all live far apart, everyone pretty much knows everyone else. And if you don't know who someone is, your neighbor does! I also have her CAR number, rabies tag and lifetime license.
My dogs do not wear tags or collars. Their tags are either attached to their crates in my van, or in my dog record book.
The ONLY time my dogs ever wear collars is when I have a leash attached to it.
Collars can kill, even the buckle type.
My dogs are tattooed and chipped, and carefully fenced.
I can name right off the top of my head 4 instances in which dogs hung themselves on their collars and died, and 2 instances in which dogs were playing, got their lower jaw twisted inside the other dogs' collar, and one dog died before they could be separated.
One instance happened to a friend who watched her promising young show bitch die right in the middle of her kitchen floor when her young male got his jaw tangled in the bitches' collar.
It took them a few seconds to figure out they were not fighting, and that the bitch was fighting for her life.
The collars were so tightly twisted, and the struggle was so desperate between the 2 big dogs, that they were unable to cut the collar in time to save her.
PLEASE, if your dogs wear collars all the time, use ONLY the kind with a plastic buckle that will break under heavy stress.
