I guess I'm just a freak cuz I've had the surgery gone bad (on myself), but I'm really nervous about getting him fixed. I know it's standard procedure, he'll have pain meds, and everything will be fine, but I keep thinking "What if..." All the vet told me in preparation is to not give him any food and water from the night before. Does that mean no food or drink after midnight tonight. or can I not even give him his evening meal between 6 and 7 tonight?
Is there anything else I should know about the procedure, preparation, or how to care for him afterwards?
I don't know why I'm freaking out. I've had many animals fixed before, but it was a long time ago. I guess maybe because this is my first dog that is all my own, that I don't own with parental supervision.
You can give him his 6-7 meal. Just nothing after mid-night unless the vet specified a time. Do you get to pick him up the same day? They usually come home groggy. When he comes home fix him a nice, soft place to rest and keep an eye on his stitches until you take them out. It's very standard procedure and he shouldn't have any problems.
