Pepper is 12 pounds and hates diamond. She loves Iams but I don't like Iams. I cannot buy her a huge bag of any dog food because it will last her forever. I need to find a dog food for all my dogs. I called my pet shop and they said they carry diamond, premium edge, professional, and chicken soup all made by the diamond company. They also carry wellness but it sounds pretty expensive. They have bill jac, innova, and I am sure some others. Can you recommend a brand?
Natural Balance will work for all of your dogs, any age, any breed. PLUS, If your store does not sell it, you can go to Petco.com and order it there or I believe Natural Balance has their own site. My puppy and Koda are both on it and doing GREAT!! Good Luck!!!
I would look at Canidae, innova, or chicken soup. Even if they don't like diamond then they will like chicken soup.
Also I wish I would have taken pictures of one of my dogs and what Diamond did to her. She ended up hairless. Of course now that she is on Canidae her coat is coming back in great. Canidae and Evo are the only two commercial foods that I personally would ever feed my dogs.
I don't like canidae because the first ingredient is chicken meal and next is turkey meal. Premium Edge for skin and coat is made by diamond and the key ingredients are Salmon, salmon meal and potatoes. I don't want the first ingredient to be meal anything.
I will and would feed meal as a first ingredient over meat anyday. Here is why.
Chicken meal is the dry rendered (cooked down) product from a combination of clean flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone, derived from the parts of whole carcasses of chicken -- exclusive of feathers, heads, feet, or entrails.
Chicken meal is considered to be the single best source of protein in commercial pet foods. This ingredient is very digestible, very palatable, and very expensive.
Turkey meal is the dry rendered (cooked down) product from a combination of clean flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone derived from the parts of whole carcasses of turkey--exclusive of feathers, heads, feet, or entrails.
Turkey meal is an excellent source of protein in commercial pet foods. This ingredient is very digestible and very palatable.
Salmon is a marine and freshwater food fish. . There is currently no official AAFCO definition for salmon.
I'm sorry, I don't know what type of dog Pepper is, but I have a little experience with dog foods. Tried Merricks dry. Definitely didn't agree with them. They ate it, but we had puddles instead of piles. Next was Innova. Still to hot for them(we still had puddles). Eagle Pack Holistic (lamb) worked well for two of my sibes (Siberian Huskys), but not the third. She got a little itchy. Chicken Soup was a disaster for all three sibes. They loved it, but all started scratching like mad. I now have them on Wellness (Fish and Sweet Potato). They like it, no more scratching (well minimal), but the stools are a little soft.
Yes, I pay a little more for the Wellness, but they actually eat less and produce less waste. In the long run I can buy a 40# bag of something else and have it last me 1 or 2 weeks. I buy 2 30# bags of Wellness and have it last me 4 weeks or longer. My big concern was finding a dry food with no BHA, BHT or ethoxiquin (sp?). I don't want to feed my girls food with known cancer causing agents in it.
I have played the dogfood game one too many times myself. Some would like one brand and some wouldn't. I wanted to find a food everybody would eat. I also tried Diamond, had loose stools. Tried a lot of the higher priced brands. Just because it's really good for them doesn't mean they will eat it! I now use Nutros Natural Choice Lamb & Rice. It also comes in small bites which are REALLY small. All my dogs like it and they look great. Beautiful coats. Nuto Max canned food is good too, if you add canned to the dry like I do. It doesn't smell bad, have that gross gel in it or any suspicious looking thingys!
diamond lamb and rice has no corn but like I said pepper hates diamond. I don't think diamond is the worst brand out there. I actually like it better than science diet. I know that chicken soup is very different from diamond but they are from the same maker. I checked the ingredients it's definitely sounds better too.
