I decided to take my 2 dogs to a field close to my house. I picked up my Ex and his 5 dogs and we all went to a huge baseball field on the water. everything was going fine (except for the gigantic puddles of mud) until they found a trail thru the weeds leading down to the water. The ex and all the dogs ran down the trail (i stayed back cause i had new sneakers on and mud up to my eyes) the next thing i new my ex had slipped in the mud and had fallen. The dogs were scattered every which way My dog come back about a minute later limping!! BAD!!I have no idea what happen or where he went on this "trail" i freaked out, cause now i have 6 other dogs running in different directions, the ex on his back up to his ears in water and my baby limping. he could barely walk... we took him back to the house i hosed him off, checked his paw for rocks etc... no cuts, no blood, nothing. So he checked for broken bones, stretched out his legs & checked his hips. He whelped a little when he did that. So we gave him an anti inflamatory shot (the ex is a vet). He said it's probably just a sprain and he should be better in a few days!!!!!!!!!!!!! well that was 3 o'clock, and he's still limping. I feel terrible! I cant stop crying. i know i'm acting like a baby but i can't help it. Has anybody's dog every had a sprain? How long did it take to heal. I asked him all these questions but it's nice to get feed back from other...
We thought one of our female schnauzers had got hurt too. We were gone about a week ago for a couple of hours, came home to her limping and dragging her left foot. Took her to the vet and turns out to be her 7th disc, enlarged heart, and spleen. She is now on Predisone. From what I understand they can go limp just immediately, I am so worried about my baby.
I had a young dog who all of a sudden came limpin..i tried asprine for 2 days..and no help...dog even would not eat..took to the vet..vet said torn acl..and said some dont do surgery..some do..but expensive and he didnt do it..i went to the orthopedic vet he suggested and he evaluated him and said spraine or plano..and it did turn out to be plano...and it traveled to other legs in time..and he was on prednisone..he was petted out as I didnt want that in my lines..but..just to point out some times a dog runing hurt them selves useing muscles they dont always use..(our short harr did this hunting season...she was such an aggressive hunter) and after a day or so of rest...she was fine...just watch and if it lasts more then 2 days...or if the dog is in so much pain it wont eat...see the vet...good luck
the dog may just have a sprain.. i know for a fact that a sprain can feel as bad as a break and may even take a couple weeks to get better..depending on where it is and how much that area is used.. but if u are really concerned maybe an x-ray can rule the break out.
If its a back leg it could be a ruptured cruitiate. Basically a torn ligament. Unfortunetly, it may need surgury if thats what it is. Its very painful. The dog would hold his foot just off the ground, mabe the odd-putting it down to walk. It will happen if the dog slips, or makes a sharp turn. Alot of dogs seem to be over weight or inactive mostly. But any dog can have an accident.
