With my dog, I grab his muzzle and hold his mouth shut, then look him in the eyes, and tell him "Stop it!" in a very firm voice. I don't let go until he calms down. But, my dog is small, so I don't know if this would work if you have a bigger dog. Sometimes it still takes both hands to do this to Merphy.
I'm having a bit of the same problem...and Jordan's got quite a grip...I actually have a bruise from her! If I yell at her she stops momentarily but she sometimes starts again...it's very frustrating...
He's getting better with the "ow" business, cuz it hurts. but he still needs to learn that biting is NOT acceptable. thanks to eveyone for replying but i still want to know where i can bring him to stop his biting

I am not going to be popular with this reply. Redyre will you agree? If you allow your dog to take his paw and remove your hand from his muzzle, it is telling him that HE is the alpha dog and above you in the pecking order. MAYBE>>>this is more dog than you can handle. YOU must be the boss, not him. I have Dobes and I never allow them to roughhouse with me. This teaches them from the start that I am alpha, and not to try to get rough with me. For playtime, i throw balls, frisbees and even tug of war, but I NEVER allow them to put teeth on me.No Body Contact unless "I" initiate it. PERIOD. EVER. If they attempt it, I take them by the scruff of the neck and shake it, not too hard, but enough that they get the picture and tell them," NO BITE" NO. (This is how they discipline each other.) This is after I'ver tried the hand on muzzle technique, but they must never get away with this negative behavior. Sorry if this offends anyone, but a biting dog is a dangerous dog.
schoolbusgirl your'e so right i agree with you plus just learn something from you b/c i been letting my dog play bite with me but he knows when to stop and not to bite hard. i will stop the biting altogether just by what you just said. i know when he's gets older it wont be cute anymore. he's 7mo old now. i think i will stop the play biting as of today thank you.
