I'm thinking about getting a rabbit. Does anyone know much about them. I've read some things about general rabbit care etc. But is there a specific breed I should look for? I would like a friendly rabbit that doesn't mind being held. Also, I have a dog so that is a concern. He's a boston terrier/beagle mix. He hates cats but other than that doesn't seem to mind other animals. My son used to have a hamster and the dog didn't mind him at all. thanks.
I had a couple when I was younger. They all died horrible deaths:( One got cancer that turned into this huge lump on the side of its head. It dide after we finally found a vet that would do the surgery. Another one broke its back when ti got scared and dove into the corner of its cage. Too fragile for me to have again. My step sister has one now nad its pretty frinedly, smelly, but cute. I've always thought if you want soemthing to pick up and snuggle go with a guinea pig. If you want something you can let run around this house(which I wouldn;t do with any type of terrier) then go for a bunny. Some are friendly when getting picked up but a lot have territory issues with their cages. they are usually fine as soon as they get out of it but I had some torn up arms a couple times.
That is what I want to get someday, a holland lop, they are absolutely ADORABLE!! I had some when I was little, my favorite was Munchkin, a rabbit that I rescued from a neighbor that was going to eat her(yuck!) She was a TOTAL sweetheart and loved people, I could hold her easily, we used to let her run around with our chickens. We had three rabbits all together but the other two(also rescued at the same time) were pretty wild but real pretty. I would like to get a H. Lop soon but I have to wait, well minimum of spring, but also I want the puppy to be older and know some basic obedience.
i getting a rabbit december 3! its that funny lol. this night sound totally dumb and you might not believe this but i actually had a dream that i was in a petshop and this lady told me a could pick up a bunny , so i did and my dad bought it for and we took it home and it was hopping it the kitchen! i woke up and i thought the bunny was in the kitchen but it wasnt, i typed petfinder.com and i found the same bunny! i asked my dad and he said it was ok and my mom said it was ok too! so we are planning to adopt it on December 3!
Sorry i got off topic...here is the link i got all my info
I have had plenty of rabbits and helped rabbits in need of homes a lot. But most of mine were all once wild, well its a long story of my town why there around, anywho, lots of rabbits. They have been the best kind Ive had but thats different. I would say lops are the best, any kind of lop actually, there mainly all friendly. Or lion heads are good too. Oh and another good breed are the dwarfs, and plus there just so cute. Any other questions just ask, I know a lot about rabbits now that I think of it.
I had rabbits when I was little too, and they also, all died horrible deaths. One broke its neck, one got ran over by a motorcycle, and the other got a bad ear infection, which caused her head to be stuck sideways. Then she drowned. It was sad.
Now, I don't care for rabbits so much. Our lawn is pretty much non-existent because of wild rabbits, you can't drive down the street here without 20 of them running in front of your car (Seen the Mercury Insurance commercial? It's no joke!!). I know I've hit a couple and it is the most horrible sound. I've screamed each time. They also cause damage to cars! But, our coyote just had puppies, so the problem should be "reduced" soon.
However, they have a big rabbit exhibit at the fair every year, and some of those things are bigger than my dog! I think it would be cool to have one of those.
