Last week I let my dog of to go play with my brothers dog and my brothers dog attacked him. So we got them appart and put my dog back on his chain. I went in to get the medicine to put on my dogs ear (it got cut in the fight). When I came back out they were at it again. We got them appart and took Spencer (my brothers dog) inside to clean the wounds because Renegade (my dog) almost killed him. I don't understand why they were fighting though. They were raised together and there were no females in heat around. The only thing I can think of is Spencer was trying to establish his dominance. What do y'all think?
That's really awful, but I don't understand. If they were raised together, then why would they want o fight and kill each other? I'm sorry that I can't help you because I have no idea what could have prevoked both of them, but I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for both of the dogs. It would be nice though to know the breed...
sometimes even when dogs have grown up together, one or the other dog can decide they want the dominant position in the household. When this happens fights happen, espeically if the more dominant dog isnt' willing to back down to the 'upstart'.
Even if you get both dogs neutered, it may do nothing to reduce the chances of a fight happening. For now, you will need to keep the dogs apart.. and I mean totally apart, especially while the one dog is healing. and doubly especially when no one is home. NEVEr leave the two alone together when no one is home. I have heard of people leaving fighting dogs togehter hoping they'd 'work it out' and coming home to a bloodbath and one dog dead :P
I figured it was over dominance. We are keeping Spencer around the front of the house and Renegade around the back. It really suprized me that Renegade was not torn up really bad because he was covered with blood, but it was all Spencers. At least when my brother moves out he will be taking Spencer.
