I have just had a wonderful puppy and she is adorable (she is eight weeks old). However she has an odour that is very pungent (something like a smelly sock!). I have bathed her and she is very clean, yet the odour remains. Can anyone shed some light on this... I wondered if it was the food the breeder had given me when I brought her home. The puppy didn't seem to like it much. I bought her recommended dry food today and she ate all of it! She also has been slow to drink water, but with encouragement is taking more.
Where is the smell comeing from, it could be anal glands, so the smell could come from the bum area. It could be from the ears, especially if they are yeasty, they would be smelly and you would see some yellow type debris. It could be eye discharge, if its left to long around they eyes, it can cause irritation under the eye.And it will smell.

Thank you all for your help. I have bathed her twice since having her but the odour still remains. I have examined her ears and they seem ok with no discharge and her eyes I bathe every day to keep them clean.
The odour remains, although tonight I noticed her breath is very bad, almost smells faecal, but the odour is generally all over her.
I am due to visit the vet with her in two weeks, and if it hasn't cleared by then I will ask him what it may be.
She is in her teething phase and I wondered if it was that?
Still she is adorable, but it is really awful not being able to hold her for too long, as the odour makes it impossible. It really is quite difficult to tolerate as it is so pungent. Poor little thing, looks at me wanting to be held. I do hold her often, but for short periods.
