Zoey came down with a rash the day before yesterday. She had it in the evening and was acting funny but we didn't realize why until yesterday. I gave her a bath last night in warm water and oatmeal and used a medicated anti-sebum shampoo. Then I put her to bed and her rash got worse. This morning she looked like her skin had calmed down a lot and much of the redness was gone. I went to work. My mom said that it started getting redder again. It is all over her body and is raised red bumps. It doesn't really look like hives.
Any ideas what it is? What should I do about it? Can vets treat rashes or is that something that needs to go away on it's own?
Also, her breathing is fine. It doesn't appear to be effecting her respiratory system at all.
Sounds like what Riley has all the time. Are the red bumps like pimples? if so, it probably started as a small rash and she licked/scratched until it got infected. The vet will probably give you some antibiotics and ointment to put on the rash. My holisitic vet also gave me special shampoo and spray to put on it, which in all honesty I didn't need the antibiotics because of that stuff, it helped overnight. It's called Virbac Pryoben I believe.
It's not pimply at all. It just looks like little dime sized raised red spots. It seemed to be a lot better this morning and then it started flaring up a little more again and I couldn't see why because she hadn't been out in the brush or anything. This is a brand new thing for her. She's miserable.
Sounds like an allergy. It is safe and what the vet will probably give her, but you can give benadryl 1 mg per pound of body weight...1 capsule for 15-25 lbs..2 caps for 50 lbs..etc but no more than 3 caps (for a very large dog) and give this 2 times a day. I'd hold off on any topical creams or ointments and try the antihistimine (benadryl). It will make Doggie sleepy for the first week. Good luck and let me know how this works.
