http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/PitBullAwareness This is a petition to get FOX News to do a segment on the truth about pitbulls. How they are not naturally aggressive and how with the proper respectful owners that make great pets for children and families. It's time we as respectful owners and breeders show the public the truth about these dogs instead of hiding behind the lies and being too scared to say anything in case Pits get banned in our area. Hiding isnt saving these dogs. Waiting untill there is a policy in place to ban the dogs is too late. We need to pull together now to help this breed of dog we all love so much.
I don't have a pit bull, but I signed the petition. I think there should be more focus on the living situations of these dogs that become aggresive. I also agree the positive aspects of the breed should be reported on.
I am all for this but I also think that it should not be just for pits, as there are other breeds being banned as well. Chows and Rottweilers also deserve to have the same "good" view as other dogs.
I don't know rotties well enough to say, but I do know Chows and they are NOT a breed I reccomend to hardly anyone, not because I think they are bad, but because they are a special dog with special training and socializing needs that not everyone can undertake( I feel the same way about pitties) I LOVE chows and always have and always will. They are great dogs but in the wrong hands can be just as dangerous as a pit in the wrong hands.
I understand that pits are getting the brute of this banning fad we are in right now but we mustn't forget the underlying dogs that are also on alot of the breed bans list.
Banning of anything has not proven a useful or in anyway a very managerial method for stopping a subject or action that is unwanted. I believe that stricter laws and penalties to the parties that are found to be neglectful and abusive in any way, as well as responsabilities and rules to those that own a dog of any breed will better change the outcome of what BSL is supposed to be achieving. Rules such as mandatory spay/neuter of all pets, if a person is a breeder, they should have to pay a certain fee for that privledge. Any person that is found injuring, abusing, or neglecting an animal should recieve jail time as well as never be allowed to own an animal of any kind again. Dogs kept on chains(for more then 4 hours a day) should be something that is outlawed, it has been proven that dogs that are chained have a tendency to be more aggressive(no matter what the breed). Leash laws MUST be stronger enforced. Also, I believe anyone that owns a dog should have to take that animal through basic obedience, I believe that should be mandatory. The rules will be alot harder to enforce but a little more effort on part of the human counterpart in all this should be worth all of the animals lives that are being taken due to BSL. As someone I know has previousely mentioned to me, after all of the breeds on the Dangerous Dog lists are banned, what breed(s) will they then replace it with? It is our jobs as humans and as the supposed higher being of earth to take care of the problems that we have created for ourselves, extermination of a breed is a pretty lazy way of handling the situation. Without solving the problem at it's root, all we are doing is delaying when it will happen again. What breed will be next?
