I have a 1 year old male Basset Hound that keeps limping on his left rear leg. This all happened in a matter of minutes. Fine when he got up, went outside and came in limping. I have read some on Pano but don't know what to think. My vet tells me that it could be a torn something or luxating patella (a costly thing to have). I just need someone that knows (or this has happened to). Thank Brandy

did you check his leg real good sometimes dogs can get something stuck between their paw that would cause them to limp.or give it a couple of days to see if he stop limping. maybe he could have hit it up against something.i just wish it one of the two . hate to see your baby go through unnecessary medical prd.
Its hard to say for sure based on your description. It could be anything from something stuck in his pad, twisted his foot, pulled muscle, torn ligament, luxating patella, hip issue. Really need a vet exam to be sure.
Well, I'm not up on my bassett hounds. Have a Dobe that has on and off pano....goes from joint to joint, the patella might be your problem, but maybe he got stepped on or stepped on something.. I'd give it a few days to a week to resolve itself and maybe half an asprin or tylenol for pain, but asprin is an antiinflamitory and might work better. Good luck.
In no way has this caused him from being a Basset Hound. He still plays with the girls (Pennie a Chihuahua, and Harley Quinn a Mini Schnauzer) like a the man of the house. He jump up on the couch and acts like normal. He just favors that left back leg.
This is my first time for a Basset Hound and I going nuts!!!
The vet told me BED REST but that is a GOAL all of it own, to make a 1 year old basset rest when he is not sleepy.
For you Basset fans:
You are my Hero's to be able to raise one with out going CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
did the vet do xrays? I had a dog that it turned up with plano...but at first one vet said torn acl..but the orthopedic vet i was referd to because my vet didnt do the surgury if it was...said it was a sprain or plano..but the treatment was the same..prednisone for like a week..and it worked...but moved to the other legs by turn...his was bad...it hurt him so bad he didnt let it bare any wieght and he didnt eat or have an appitite...but it was diagnosed by the vet...please take him back to the vet and get some tests done..
Hey i have 2 bassets one is 2 and 14 weeks the other.......I asked my vet about that once and bassests tend to have leg problems in older age due to how low they are too the ground.......they also have hip problems..........But being young like he is i would go to the vet and try to fix whats wrong but good luck!
Bambino had that problem once btw and and he just had a sprain and when i got my first basset i was told they are lazy but they enjoy getting in everything.....they are so active and loveable
