plastic is bad because it harbors bacteria. my frenchies were getting bumps under their chins from the plastic self waterer. i switched to the stainless steel dog dishes. they have the rubber rings around the bottoms to keep them from sliding around while they are eating and drinking. no problems since.
Ace and Summer have ceramic bowls from Target. I got them for $1.00 each and they are so cute, white with maroon stripes going around the outside and a puppy on the bottom of the bowl. :) I heard the same thing about plastic bowls harboring bacteria.
Merphy eats from ceramic bowls that are on a stand so he doesn't have to bend over to eat and drink. I heard thats bad for their back and hips. He also has a plastic outside water bowl. It gets washed every day.
ceramic bowls in an elevated feeder from fosters smith. outside, a giant plastic bowl for water. it only goes out when we go out, only in the nice weather, its washed daily, and bleach sanitized once a week or so.
Been using ceramic, but Layla's getting pretty bossy around dinnertime and is starting to throw her bowls around to let us know she's hungry and they're starting to chip, so I think I'm out to buy some stainless steel ones.
