HeatherFeather The other day you were running around here telling us how smart and good you are. And how much better you were than all of us.Well honey tonight you and your statement about disable children won you the award of the worst person on TP. I hope to god you didnt tell those children what you think of them.

heatherfeather, correct me if i am wrong. are you saying that it would be "disgusting" for someone with downs syndrome to reproduce ? i really hope that that is not what you meant in your prior comment. we are all given the hand that we are dealt with at birth. each and every one of us has god given talents. it is up to us to develope them. people are born everday with disabilities. they learn to live with them and overcome them. they have just as much right as you and me to have normal lives. get married, have children, jobs, pets a home, etc. no one should ever look down upon anyone that may look, act, walk or talk different. it is what is on the inside that matters. a loving heart is a healthy heart. the great wizard of oz said it best. " a heart is not judged by how much we love, but rather by how much we are loved by others" ...........
Pepper and doggiecomehome, perhaps if you removed your noses from the back sides of some of the members here, you would be in a better position to actually read what I wrote. I said nothing bad about children with disabilities, I actually enjoy these children. If I didn't, I wouldn't have volunteered to take the little girl with down syndrome into my class. I wouldn't have watched Mellie all those years, and I wouldn't keep in touch with her and her family still today. But, I did and I still do. I started volunteering in the "Special Ed" class when I was in the fifth grade...so am I repulsed by a handicapped child? No, not at all. No, I was the kid that was teased by the "cool" kids on the playground because on Tuesdays and Thursdays I took Gabe and Heath out and played with them on the playground. I don't believe I made any statement(s) saying otherwise.
What I did say, was there was an occurence in the news some years back where an otherwise healthy male impregnated a mentally retarded female (and yes, I am aware that not all children born with down syndrome are mentally handicapped, however many are). The general public, as well as the media, scrutinized the male, saying that it was disgusting for him to do so. There was also a show, like Law & Order or something like that show, that played a case where a man was being convicted for intentionally impregnating a mentally retarded girl. Now, read closely...does it say anywhere in there that I am disgusted by handicapped people reproducing? Nope! I am not the general public, nor am I the media. I didn't voice my opinion on the matter. If you had asked, I would have said that I don't really have a strong opinion either way. In Mellie's case, she should not reproduce...she will NEVER have the mentality of an adult and will not have a sense of responsibility and care that is needed to have a child. Her mother feels the same way.
As for my posts a few days ago, I said that I don't think I am better than anyone else. I am not smarter than anyone. It all evens out. You're more knowledgeable in some areas that I am completely dumb in, and vice versa. The world wouldn't function otherwise.
And Dusty, I am well aware that I am just as likely to have a handicapped child as anyone else here. Actually, I am more likely to; I carry the gene for hemophilia (which is a disorder in the blood), my little brother has it, as do four of my male cousins and my grandfather, and his brother died from it when he was 8 after having a tooth pulled. Another cousin of mine, has a four year old son that was just diagnosed as being mildly retarded, he's blind in one eye, and still is not potty trained. Could it happen to me? Yes! Would it be the end of the world? Not at all. I'd actually consider adopting a handicapped child. And, technically, 50% of my sons will have hemophilia, which can be very serious.
I don't understand your logic here. So, I would hope that you would refrain from your bashing of other breeders' practices, as it doesn't seem you have room to talk. ********************************************** I think HF summed up the feelings of the majority about this issue. And RR--apparently, the judges like Ali's dog's, just because you don't does not them pet quality. I know you are not going to spay Penny just because the AKC judges won't put her up. Or because other's think you should.
