I'm really concerned about Taji and Piper's rough play. I've noticed that after a few of their sessions, either of the two may have drawn blood from the other (a very small amount on the coat). Taji is very energetic, while Piper is a bit more laid back. Usually when Piper is done playing, she has no problem letting him know by growling or snapping at him. I'm assuming that Taji may have been protecting himself when he bit her, since he normally doesn't have a "mean streak" in him. She also growls or snaps when I give them treats, although she has no problem sharing a bowl of food with him. I don't want to come home one day and the rough housing has gotten out of hand! Also, it seems like they are in constant competition for my attention (especially Taji) which sometimes leads to rough housing. I'd love to hear from others who have multiple dogs and how they've handled similar problems.
I had multiple dogs, and honestly, when the fights start turning real enough that blood is being drawn, it's getting to be time to seperate the dogs at all times for their own safety. Unfortunately, there's little you can do as far as training to stop dog fights from escalating more and more. What kind of dogs are they? I was only surprised by the fact that your dogs are male and female, often times it's same sex dogs that find themselvs in this situation. Competing for your attentions isn't making things any easier.
how old are they? if they are around teething age the blood you may be seeing maybe coming from the baby teeth being lost during play. i 've noticed this too when my dog was younger and now when she plays with younger dogs. at first i thought too that they hurt each other but it is a small amount of blood and usually she was teething or the younger dog was.
That's the thing! I have not seen any indication of a bite mark. What I have seen, though, is maybe a thin streak of blood or a spot of blood. Never dripping blood or matted hair where one may have bled from a bite.
since you have never seen a wound of any type or even a scratch i would say then that they are losing their baby teeth while they are playing and that is why you are only seeing a small amount of blood. may be why the female is cranky. teething hurts !
