Okay I live in Buffalo, NY and it is freezing here, but I really want my dog to go potty outside. She cries the second we go out there even with her sweater on. Should she be able to go out or am I being mean? Also, she still doesn't have a name!!!
I have a chi also and am in the midst of also housebreaking him. Granted I am a lot further south so it is not quite as cold...but I just have to make my chi stand out side for a bit until he goes. He runs to he door several times, but when I know he has to go I just keep picking him up and putting him in the grass....eventually he would go. And now he ahs learned the quicker he goes the more quickly he can go inside....just takes time...and bearing cold weather :)
Make her go out anyway, she is probably just not used to the snow if their is any...she may also not like having cold feet.maybe invest in some Booties. She may also just be trying to make you do what she wnats to do.I doubt shes that cold though.
I like Bella,Annie,Tinkerbell,Cali,Sugar,Xena,Tiny.
Louie is not 13 weeks. Believe me it was a battle, especially in the middle of the night when I didn't want to be there either....but I figure some tough times in the beginning is worth it to have them house broken. And chi's are very stubborn....so you cant always let them have their way. Louie still hates to go in the rain...but I just make him. I stand out there with an umbrella sometimes for 10 min. until he will go.
A 1 lb dog should not be made to go outside in any temperature colder than 38 degrees. Train this girl to go on newspaper and then in the spring bring the newspaper outside and soon she will learn to go outside. If you cannot do this you should consider another breed. A 1 lb Chihuahua can get frostbite in less than two minutes at 30 degrees. She is screaming because it hurts and the equivalent for you as a person would be to stand outside naked for 30 minutes and see how it feels to you.
Wow you make it sound terrible!! The vet told me she would be fine to go potty outside. She also said said they get too confused if you try to paper train and then train to go outside. She isn't even out there for as long as two minutes. She goes and comes right back in, I don't even shut the door while she goes! I stand there with her. She goes right on our deck which is covered by an awning so there is no snow. When we go back inside she is snuggled till she warms up.
