I don't understand why people think it's OK to impose on others and violate their rights. Not everyone likes cats. His neighbor asked him to keep his cats off her property. She has every right to a cat-free environment.
"Joe Ashbaugh told KIRO 7 his neighbor began complaining about his family's cats getting into her yard about six months ago. "She was upset obviously," said Joe Ashbaugh"
If your neighbor asks you to keep your cats off her yard it is your obligation to comply. If you can't stop them from roaming then you should either keep them indoors or rehome them. You don't continue to let them roam and ignore people's rights.
I don't agree with poisoning animals. It's cruel and wrong. I think she should have called animal control. This should be a lesson to a lot of people --- keep your animals on your property because someone might hurt them. Unfortunately, this is not the first time a cat has been poisoned.
scary, my cats are strictly indoors. my neighbor has two cats that she lets out during the day and takes in at night, sometimes her cats come in my yard. big friggen deal. NO HARM. cats will roam. it does not give anyone the right to kill them. there are also wild animals , squirrels, chipmunks, oppossum, etc that come here also. why do they deserve to be poisened because someone doesnt want them in their yard. she put out a bowl of chicken parts sitting in antifreeze. KNOWING it will kill anything that ate it. she technically LURED them into her yard by doing that. she is a cold hard bitter woman and i say she will rot in hell for what she has done, no matter what her punishment will be on this earth.
Hopefully the water spigot in the prison cell that this whacko should enter will contain all kinds of water borne nasties. Where is a terrible case of non-fatal thyphoid or cholera when needed? Killing is killing I suppose but intentional poisoning is seriously pre-meditated and beyond inhumane.
Dusty, I never said I agreed with killing animals. I said " I don't agree with poisoning animals. It's cruel and wrong. I think she should have called animal control." Never did I say she was justified in killing those cats.
My point was people should keep their animals in their own property. Not everyone likes your pets. Some people do not like cats. You can't force your cat down someone's throat so to speak. That woman is paying for her home. If she wants a cat-free yard, she is entitled to it. It is her right, like it or not.
The woman asked her neighbor 6 months ago to keep his cats off her property. Why didn't he comply? He also said she was upset. Why would you risk someone hurting your pets? This is not the first incidence of a cat or dog being poisoned by a neighbor.
If someone was angry with my cat, I wouldn't let my cat in that person's yard. I would keep the cat indoors with me where he is safe.
I watched Animal Planet the other night and a man threw a cat over a fence and the cat got caught on the fence. He didn't think there was anything wrong with his actions. When arrested, he said "all this for a cat?" Unfortunately, a lot of people feel the same way. In this forum, we all love animals but outside of this forum lots of people do not.
I would never risk my pet's life. If I knew someone disliked my pet, I would not let him near that person. Better safe than sorry.
scary, I live about a ten minute drive from this woman. I live in graham and she spanaway. both towns are connected. it is against the law to poison an animal. domestic or wild. when she put out a bowl of poison chicken, she was not only endangering the cats she doesnít like, but also the wildlife that is abundant where we live. besides the squirrels, chipmunks, oppossums, raccoons, and fox, there are also several wild birds, owls, hawks and even bald eagles. god knows how many other animals could of got ahold of that poison. yes, I agree that the guy should have kept his cats indoors and far away from her, but I donít think he expected that she would flat out poison them the way she did. those cats died an agonizing death because some worthless piece of scum , who doesnít deserve to breathe human air, didnít want cats walking on her precious grass. we have a lot of wildlife coming into our yards because little by little we are encroaching on their habitats. they are hard pressed for food . so lets all put out poison so we donít have to be bothered with them. heck, its not mans fault they are here looking for food. we needed their land to build more shopping malls and apartment complexes ! so if they bother you.....poison them off along with any cats that might wander onto our precious property too!!..................NOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont understand why people get so upset over cats in their yard. Sure they may poop on your grass, but so would every other wild animal. I do understand that cats will sometimes get into garbage, but so will racoons and skunks, so your garbage should be properly contained. I think it has more to do with peoples attitudes, they think this is *MY* property, people need to calm down and chill out.
that is so sad that those cats were stuck in the middle of that! PTA should kick both their butts. As the cats owner he should have protected them from the neighbor he knowingly understood she did not like them yes its hard work but it was his job and for that crazy lady? who the heck does that? my dogs got out and went next door and i got a $280.00 ticket and a visit from the neighbor saying if they do it again he will shoot and kill them although i dont agree with it he does have the right it is his yard not my dogs and since my dogs don't know the property line it is my job to keep them home and safe
cootiesmom, so it's okay for me to walk my dog by your lawn every day and let him make a big poop on your grass? because wild animals are going to anyway, that makes it okay for me to let my domesticated dog that I chose to have responsibility for go on your yard?
and dusty you're saying big deal if you have cats in your yard. would you feel that way if they were spraying the side ouf your house and you could smell it all day long in the summer? or if they were digging up the garden that you and your kid planted together? or if them being there was stressing your own cat out so much that she started urinating outside the litter box and grooming herself so much to relieve the stress that she gets hotspots?
Of course there is no excuse for what this lady did. She's horrible. But so is this attitude that oh well, cats will be cats. Yes they will, but if they're bothering your neighbors your cats should be cats indoors
About 5 years ago we had to move from wonderful house in town on an acre lot. We had 6 dogs and a 5 foot chain link fence around most of the property. They never got out but 2 of the 12 neighbors were scared of them and continually threatened to hurt them if 'they ever get out' to the point that I didn't feel safe having them outside.
I will admit that our oldest girl who is 9 now did not like one of those neighbors. We figure he must have hurt or provoked her in some way. She would bark and jump at the fence when ever he came by, and she has never been that way towards any one else EVER.
DanjaVA, you get my point. I would never poison an animal...NEVER. Poisoning animals with antifreeze is very cruel. The animal dies a very painful death.
On the other hand, this man who owned the three cats is not blameless. If you have animals it is YOUR DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITY to keep them safe in YOUR OWN PROPERTY. Not everyone likes cats and we have to respect their feelings.
If you can't stop your cats from roaming by all means keep them indoors where they are safe.
A neighbor's dog keeps entering my front yard. He urinates and poops in my yard on a weekly basis. He gets my dogs riled up and it's very annoying. Dusty, are you suggesting that this behavior is acceptable? I have another neighbor who has an outdoor cat. That cat "visits" my yard quite often. He has sprayed on occasion. I am pretty sure one of them dug up my garden because my dogs are never in the front yard without supervision. Bust dusty thinks it's OK. So I have no right to be annoyed. Cats will be cats. Yeah right!
I would never poison these animals or shoot them because it's not their fault. Their owners should be making sure they are confined in their property.
I think this woman should go to jail for her cruel actions BUT the owner of the 3 cats should also be ticketed.
I agree it was wrong and cruel for her to poison the cats but I have a woman on my street who has 10 cats and she allows them to roam free. They come into my yard and poop and then my dog eats it! It's gross and I shouldn't have to go pick up her cats poop every day to make sure my dog doesn't eat it! Not to mention several people on my street have almost run the cats over because they just run out into the street. It might sound crazy but maybe there should be leash laws for cats too.
yes, people should control their animals. but there are other ways of dealing with it. here were we live, you can pay a 50 dollar deposit to the humane society for a live trap fully refundable on return.they will even come out and pick up the trap after the animal is caught. when the owner has to pay to get his cat/s back , he will either keep them confined or they will be placed for adoption elsewhere. she had that choice as we all do here. she chose a cruel and inhumane solution to her so called problem.
Dusty, we are not advocating the poisoning of animals. I think she should have called animal control and let them handle it.
I have very little sympathy for the owner of the cats. He should have kept them indoors since he couldn't keep them off her property. If he kept them indoors she couldn't have poisoned them. He knew she hated his cats. Why would he continue to allow his cats to enter her property?
If someone hated my dog, I would make darn sure my dog never goes near that person. My dog doesn't have the capacity to make decisions for himself. It is my duty to protect him and keep him safe.
These stories make me so mad. I went to a friend's house and saw a sign on someone's lawn "You killed our dog and our cat because you were speeding. Who's next?" It aggravates me because the person who made the sign is not taking responsibility for her actions. Why was your dog off leash and in the street? Why wasn't your cat indoors? Why was your cat roaming the streets?
I know I always stop for animals. But God forbid, I hit someone's pet I would hope that no one blames me.
I guess my point is TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS. DON'T INFRINGE ON OTHER PEOPLE'S RIGHTS. TAKE CARE OF YOUR ANIMALS AND KEEP THEM AWAY FROM PEOPLE WHO DISLIKE THEM BECAUSE THERE ARE PSYCHOS OUT THERE WHO COULD HURT THEM. KEEP YOUR ANIMALS ON YOUR PROPERTY.
What I don't understand is why does dusty think it's OK for cats to be in other people's yards? I pay my mortgage, I pay my taxes, I own my home, if I don't want YOUR cats in my yard, it's my right. If you continue to let your cats in my yard, darn right we have a problem. Now, I won't poison your cats but I will call animal control on you.
scary, you are a peice of work. i never said it was alright for people to let their cats go into others yards. i said it was no big deal if they came into mine. putting poison out as a means to eliminate the problem is disgusting. the cats should have never had to suffer the way they did, REGARDLESSS of the owners negligence. it could have been anything that got into that poison, even someones kid.putting poison out in the open , with the intent to harm ANYTHING, is just wrong. period !
the lady is an idiot but so are the owners. What if there cats would have went inot someones garage and drinken it? They put tehre pet at risk being outside. the lady should definately be in trouble but the owners should accept some responcibility because if those cats were inside it wouldn't have happened. All that siad we feed some outside cats and I'd be sad if something happened to them but they are outside cats and travel barn to barn here,it wouldn't surprise me.
