Someone I know had to made a 14 hour trip to pick up her, well..the breeder drove 5 hours and the person I know drove 9 hours. Well, the dog is now car sick from the ride. Poor thing. She's stopping at a motel to take a break before making the rest of the trip home. Does anyone have any suggestions to make the rest of their trip home easy on the puppy?
(By the way, the puppy is in excellent health, really is just car sick.) Would not feeding the dog for the rest of the trip and just give her water be a bad idea?
When we first got our three two of the three puked every time we went to the store. We socialized them any chance we could get. My trick for no puking is no food 2-3 hours before the trip. And then wait a few hours afterward. If they eat immediately after the homecoming I've found that they are still a little wobbly inside and will up-chuck all of it within minutes. My best suggestion, some water no food beofre hand and wait afetrwards. It will give time for pup to just mellow. Best of luck!
P.S. We drove six hours each way with 2 mnth old pups for Thanksgiving vacation and they did great with the above instructions.

How old is the puppy? Can young puppies be given Dramamine? I would make sure that's ok before giving.
Cinnamon used to get carsick when she was a pup. I mean, any trip longer than 30 min. It was bad. I used to get these motion sickness pills from the vet when she was a young dog. They would knock her out! lol She's fine now, doesn't get car sick anymore.
I don't feed either of my dogs before trips. A moderate amount of water should be okay.
