Our landlord's house insurance company will not cover certain breeds (chows, rotts, pits, etc.) and we're trying to find another company for him to switch to so that we can stay in our house. Does anyone out there know of a company (in California) that will cover a house with a pitbull in residence? Your help is Grrrrreatly appreciated.
This is a huge problem in California. My landlord in Florida wouldn't let us own any "dangerous" breeds or her homeowners insurance would go up. There are laws that prohibit non-owners of a home to carry insurance on said home. Me sure you are in your legal boundaries here. http://www.pbrc.net/breedspecific.html This is a GREAT website for you. http://www.unclematty.com/woofpub/articles/insurance.htm This is a link that helps you find insurance for owners or renters.
Hi, I recently bought a house and needed home owners insurance myself. During the application process with AAA, I asked if there are any dog breeds that they do not allow because I am thinking about getting a Doberman or possibly a PitBull. They said that they currently do not ban any specific dog breeds, but that during the application process any dog bites/attacks must be disclosed. The number for AAA is: 1-800-723-0220. I hope this helps.
we had this same problem when we bought our home. we were going to go with american family but when they found out we had pits we couldn't but the guy refered us to another, i can't remember the name of my own inserance but i will ask my bf and let you know.
I see the AKC lists Allstate. I have homeowners with Allstate insurance. When I bought my home and contacted my agent at Allstate, he said that Pit Bulls were the only dog on their list. He also told me that it goes by the specific agent not the insurance company on the breed ban lists. Not sure how true that is.
