As some of you might know, yesterday, I got a black labrador 3 weeks old puppy named Lola. Midnight, my 6 year old dog, has already had babies. I'm so happy because Midnight DID adopt Lola as her own baby, and you should see them together, you would say that Midnight IS really her mom!
Lola is already used to the house now... she loves the couch, and sleeping with her mom infront of the woodstove. Midnight doesn't have any more milk in her, so I have to feed Lola with a bottle. She can eat hard food, but it hurts her gums, and she prefers the bottle anyways. But I'm going to wait a little longer for the dry food so that she won't destroy her gums before she has teeth. She's so cute!
Midnight is not jealous at all. The moment she saw Lola, she became her mom. It's rare when you see them seperated. When Lola saw Midnight for the first time, she ran over to Middy and layed beside her while Middy was licking her. Too cute.
As far as potty training, it's okay. She will "go" when she really, really has to, but or otherwise she stands infront of the door until some one lets her out. We have a fence, so Lola can't escape.
Personally, I can never get enough of those two together. I promise you!
I like young dogs because I like having them in my life for as long as I can. I know that they will die, but I prefer younger... just because. I can't get pictures on right now, but as soon as I have time, I will try to get them on.
congrats on your new baby ! i bet its a sweetheart. three weeks is awfully young to be taken from its momma though. they need the collostrum in the mammas milk . also as long as the mothers been vaccinated the pups will be protected from desease as long as they are nursing. hope to see pics and again, congratulations !
and i have and issue as to why you would prefer to get young pups...in less it was a tragic incident that the dog had to be taken away...i just dont understand..a pup needs to imprint and socialize with its sibblings for generally 8 to 12 weeks of age depending on the breed. This is suggested to offer the best start for pups..
As for the gums getting torn up with the food..I personally feed my pups beging at 3 weeks old..and yes they eat the food moistened and softened. I would give him the bottles but try to feed him 4 meals of mush puppy food..it does not tear up the pups gums..
